topic Which is Better? in Credit Cards

I did a prequalify with Navy Fed and they prequalified me for all of their cards. I know their pre qualification is flawed and I don't want to get denied for a card. Should I just get the secured card and avoid applying for the unsecured cards? I also know they pull from Transunion and my score is average

Yes their pre-approvals are notoriously unreliable... if you feel your credit is on the fence when it comes to an approval, or get a denial, there's nothing wrong with going the secured route.

What are your FICO scores?

How long have you been with NFCU?

Navy's underwriting is not the toughest compared to many other lenders.

2. As @JoeRockhead says, there's nothing wrong in applying for a secured card.

3. The fact that you are prequalified for all their cards is a positive, although, as you have observed, it is fallible

I burned NFCU for around 20k. They show me prequalified for all their cards as well. I have not paid them back. There is no way I would qualify for one of their cards.

Like others have said, go for the secured. It is hard admitting to past credit misuse, almost all on the Forums have been there, self included.

Since they are going to pull your credit regardless... I would call customer service. See if you apply for unsecured and if denied can you use the same pull for the secured? Keep us posted.
