Mod Reminders? Why no one giving datapoints?

I love seeing everyone brag about their approvals on credit cards, but I've noticed like NO ONE is posting datapoints... are like maybe 10% of people are.

This forum is supposed to be helpful not just a place to brag. When new users pop up out of no where with an awesome approval to report but then they don't give any data, it's kind of like a slap in the face for those looking to possible apply for whichever card it may be...

I know there aren't rules but can someone please mention something about folks at least including some datapoints. My good lord..

bro I dunno where to post it. def dont wanna be a mod myself but jeez @GreatLife it didn't used to be like this. everyone used to be so helpful 14 yrs ish ago when I started on this forum.

I understand some financial info is sensitive but even just giving scores is being skipped.

Im not afraid to say I would not have been approved for 80% of the prime cards or otherwise Ive had without the knowlege from here and others are missing out and aren't learning like the poor guy in the auto loan forum being told he should sign when the dealer changed the rate.

just hoping the mods can make an announcment or say/do something to remind ppl.

This isn't likely to happen, unfortunately.

The current mods generally don't participate in the community, they're only around to do housekeeping and make sure the Terms of Service (as established by FICO) are followed. There's nothing in the TOS about having to provide data points, so it's not likely to ever be mentioned.

For what it's worth I agree that providing data points would be helpful and in the spirit of why we're here. 'Back in the day' the old mods did try to encourage folks to provide data points and additional information (and many folks did), but even then it was only something we could ask for.

Agree that DPs are very helpful...I relied on the data from others to gauge where I stood when I was in the midst of my rebuild. Another suggestion...ask the person for DPs, and if possible ask them to edit their original post with them so they aren't buried in the thread.

This seems the most obvious fix. And (hopefully!) after a few examples people will decide to do it initially.

Are the Approval forums really that different from the good old days? I remember them more as:

"Yes, I just got card X!!!!" followed by 100 posts saying congrats

(Ok, perhaps slightly unfair caricature) And, if we were lucky, card X wouldn't be an MR charge card with the poster then posting in the main forum "How do you use MRs"

But yes, ask for DP. The real question then is what you do with that information!

Not everyone has all those data points you want. I just recently posted about getting approved for the USB Platinum card. The app was a fluke and I have NO clue what my actual FICO score was at that time. FAKO scores aren't helpful. I used to subscribe to a site membership for the scores and quarterly bureau reports but now that I own a home and have no need to buy a car in the next 6+ years I cancelled the subscription as it seemed a waste of $30/month. I subscribe to the belief that if you manage your debt your FICO score is the least of your concerns.

I did include the two biggest data points as far as I am concerned regarding my approval which is I have been in the garden for almost 2 years which means inquiries were not a concern and that USB services my mortgage and REALLY is chasing me as a customer. I see quite a few posts about them being picky about approvals or stingy about credit lines but my experience with them has me convinced that your existing relationship with them matters more.

As far as the other data points unless someone gets denied they may not know what the FICO was that the lender used vs. what a membership told them their FICO was. We get more data in a denial vs. an approval. I know with my approval it simply took about 30 seconds and said congratulations. No data points on why they approved me they just did and here is how much of a CL you got. In the end whether someone apps for a card is highly subjective and needs to be done based on their credit needs, the value of the product and the reality of what they know about their own profile. Carrying huge balances, and have a few lates? AMEX and other prime cards probably a long shot. Have a solid relationship with a bank: they might over look some small issues other banks would give a hard no on. Carry balances but have a good payment history Cap1 will be happy to give you a card they love collecting interest. Are there outliers? Always but still the value of the product you want should help you decide if the HP risk is worth it.

I have been asked questions like "what was your stated income?" and "How many inquiries did you have?" when I've posted an approval. Sometimes I'm just excited about the new card or the CLI and don't think about what might help others trying to get the same thing, but I'll respond to questions in the thread. I have also asked others such things when they got cards that I wanted.

Sometimes I fire off the "Yay me! I got this card!" And then maybe later I come back and edit the post to include DP that I think are relevant.

Most of the info is in my signature, but signatures and scores and x/6, x/12, x/24 info changes. So when I'm digging through multiple old posts from a search about a card I'm interested in, the person's current signature may not tell me much about their situation when they got this card two years ago. So yes, this is about exchanging information, but sometimes you have to ask for the info you want. In times past, it was common to see a post about "I got XYZ Mega Visa!" And then the second or third post down would be someone asking "Care to provide us some DPs?" Maybe we need to get back to asking for more info in those threads to get things trending back in that direction.

I've done that. When asked a question in a long thread, I've replied there and then gone back and edited the OP to put that info where it's easy to find.
One problem is that there's a limit to how long you can edit posts. I'm not sure how long, but after a certain amount of time you can not edit your old posts. So if it's not a new thread . . .

I've done this as well from both sides. I asked others for more info when I wanted to know more details, and I added more info when I was approved but didn't supply all possible data points in my first post. If I do edit a post, I try to explicitly state: "Edit to include..."

even posting deep in the thread is fine cause like Im a nerd and personally Ill read all of it just to get that little bit of information.

wouldn't even want it to be a TOS "requirement" but its just gotten so bad lol in the past few months. like hardly anyone posts Datapoints.

Personally Ive had my identity stolen at dozen times since 2014 so I understand a little but I dont think that's a concern.

FAKO scores can be helpful. FAKOs aren't really fakos anymore. CK uses Vantage. Synch Uses Vantage. There are so many scores, just gotta know which one for which loan you want.

what other sites are people going on to learn about credit these days? I miss the whogavemecredit site. Dang, I scoured that thing for HOURS AND HOURS. now it doesnt even come up as a legit site any more.

there used to be financeglobe too but havent checked that in awhile. Think its defunct also.

Sometimes I do see people being asked where they got that score. If I say my credit score is 750, that doesn't mean much. What credit score? Newbies don't always know this. If they say they got it from CK, then at least you know a ballpark of where they are. If someone says "They pulled Ex. I've read other DPs saying this lender uses FICO 8. My Ex 8 is 766." That's precise information. If we at least ask what score it is and where they got it, we can then make our own judgements about how good that info might be.

@Anonymous were the good old FF better? Y & N. Definitely more posters. Also, people with excellent credit that, IMO, looked down on the rebuilders. Retail cards were called "toy" cards. Secured cards and rebuilder cards were belittled. People were more judgemental. There were those that did offer great helpful advice. Good information was given to help those with poor credit. I think the Forums shot itself in the foot when it removed some non posters. Others, that hadn't been here on here in almost ten years were not taken off. I responded to a nine year old post. The Mod messaged me stating I would not receive a reply since the poster was obviously gone. The posting was then locked. Some posters are worth more than others. My two year hiatus lost me my former time and name. There are postings for CC that no longer exist. Some haven't for years! I have yet to receive a reply to three messages sent to the Mods.

I would disagree, I don't think individuals looked down at anyone. What has changed is that individuals cannot take constructive criticism and blame CCC for AA or other issues but not themselves.

I have been around here a long time and it was better before because there could be good conversation without the someone complaining about hurt feelings. It's just the sign of the times when everyone gets a trophy, deserves perfect credit or whines about datapoints.

If someone wants DPs on approvals/denials there is PM or just go to creditboards / credit pulls - CreditBoards where there is plenty of data regarding approvals and denials.

That doesn't make sense. One of the reasons people come here is to get all the information in one place. Why would I come here for some information just to have to go elsewhere to look for another piece of the same puzzle? Also, there's a whole segment of folks that are just lurkers that soak up the information posted. Once you take stuff to PM you lose the visibility of the info.

I don't, I use as many resources that I can and you should too. You have to take all the information posted with a grain of salt, not gospel and look for more data/resources.

Right, and this also applies to the advice givers. I am often somewhat amused when someone posts something like:

"I am thinking of applying for card X, my scores are ... and I am Y/24...."

Some people then ask for a list of all their cards, along with dates they got them, CL and balance etc. All useful info, but without actually being underwriters for the issuers of card X, any advice is at best a guess.

I'm sure people here will say that it's informed from experience, but... actually it really isn't. To begin with, sample sizes are small and biased, we don't always get to hear the decision, there are those who don't apply because of the feedback who might have been successful etc and for any individual we don't know all the issues with the CR that might make or break a decision. Yet advice givers are often confident!

It would be interesting to actually calculate the combined MyFico prediction success rate.

That's actually the whole point. It's not that a singular thread/person is taken as gospel; this place is so large that it has volumes of data points from lots of different people, situations, etc. Of course nothing is exact or perfect since every credit decision is individualistic but with enough anecdotal evidence you can craft a directional idea of how your own situation fits in. When you lose the data points, you lose a big chunk of the ability to use this place as a valuable resource.
