VantageWest has launched a refer-a-friend program (details at https://vantagewest.org/refer-friend-program/ ). I have been told that people who are referred by a "friend" are eligible for membership even if they do not meet Vantage West's normal membership requirements. I do not guarantee that this is the case. That's just what I was told.

Vantage West credit cards give 5% back on the category of your choice, 3% back on gas, 2% back on groceries, and 1% on everything else. I believe they also have a 6-month 0% APR introductory period. No application fee. No annual fee. No cash advance fee. No balance transfer fees.

Does "even if they do not meet Vantage West's normal membership requirements" include an override of their georestriction?

I asked whether the person needed to live or work in Maricopa County, AZ. I was told "no."

It looks like they are only accepting referrals in-branch right now and a trip to Arizona is not in my upcoming plans, unfortunately 😑. And I was going to try to become your "friend" 😉!

Having enough trouble getting in with them when I had my mom join to get me in as she lives in Maricopa county like I use to.. Unable to verify identity BS. Need to make a trip out there and do it in branch as eligible even before this, they just want to be difficult.

I had problems too. I don't live in Maricopa County, so I told them I worshipped at the Mormon temple there. They refused to do it over the phone, so I showed up and got it done.

It's a great credit union in my book. I got in during the window when it was not geofenced. Too bad they put the fence back up.

I checked out the link. It says at the bottom "Have your friend stop by a branch or open an account online". When I proceed with a new application, there is this option "I want to become a new Vantage West Credit Union Member, but I do not meet the criteria above. I understand that my eligibility will need to be reviewed."

I don't see anyone mention this on the forum. Is the online referral newly added? Might be a good time for me to make some new friends

Dang, I briefly got my hopes up again for this card. I would definitely befriend someone from Arizona to get in with Vantage West.

I've wanted this card for years. The stupid Arizona Bicycle Club emails haunt my failed attempt years ago. But I draw the line at flying there to apply in person.

Yea I felt bad when the GABA membership chair called to ask for renewal and I declined.

But was a good miss though, not getting this card. There are no fee no geofence cards that rebates 4-5% on most of the VantageWest categories. Jumping through all those hoops for another low spend cap card is too much.

I've had the card for a long time and they are a good credit union. No issues getting stuff resolved and they are always pretty chill. Their utilities category covers cell phone and internet and streaming as well as the normal stuff. They do hard pull CLI and because of that I've had the same $5k limit since I was approved. Their online and mobile app are good, not ancient like some credit unions.

I'll pass my name and address in DM to the first person that messages me so we can figure out if the referral will get around the geofence, but I am myself outside the geofence so not sure if it will work. (As long they promise to update the thread with the results and provide the data point)

It seems to me that you can apply online. I applied in person, and I told them that I worshipped at the Mormon Temple at 5220 W Pinnacle Peak Rd in Glendale. That's in Maricopa county. The person I spoke to went away to verify it, then came back, and I was in like Flynn.

I applied online with a referral but was rejected for the following reason:

"Either your identity or other personal information could not be verified, certain application criteria has not been met, or the application has expired."

I guess they want people to make a trip out to the branch.
