Congrats on the release of a preset spending limit. I don't think it matters if you wait to ask for a CLI, but you may know your circumstances best. I have had a card for decades which had a $12k spending limit slapped on it a few years ago. The month after the limit was removed, they let me generate a $63k statement which I paid off-- so once the lid was off, it was off.

Hey everyone! Wanted to share some good news! I've had a $4100 dollar preset spending limit on my Platinum card for a few years now. I have no idea why they put a limit on it a few years ago, but it really annoyed me because I heard with a preset spending limit they wouldn't increase my other cards. And I've been wanting to get an increase on my Delta Gold card for years. So now I can finally do that! I'm probably going to wait a couple of months to do that, this way it doesn't look like I'm just asking for the increase and wanting more credit right away. Figured I'll give it 2-3 months and then ask for it! So just wanted to share the good news that I'm back to no preset spending limit!

Side question: When I go request a CLI, should I ask for the Amex 3x increase? My limit is $3000 right now, so should I be asking for $9000 and is it likely to get approved instantly? And second question is is it a soft pull or a hard pull on your credit report? Thanks!

Congrats on getting the preset limit removed. With regards to your cli request, you can ask for 3x( $9000) and they'll either approve that outright, offer something lower like $6000 or they may deny. It's all dependent upon your spending habits, payment habits and profile at the time. CLI's are sp so no worry of a hard pull. Note that if they decline the request, the clock will be reset before you can request another cli.

But that can never be 100% guaranteed.
