Chase to no longer allow BNPL

Chase Bank has announced they will no longer allow their suite of credit cards to be used for by now. Pay later check out options with retailers.

This change goes into affect on October 10

I was not even aware they could be used like that. I guess never actually using Buy Now Pay Later means I never learned the peculiarities. Overall I think this will help most cardholders and I can see other issuers doing this as well as protection. Also Chase does offer a version of BNPL of their own as long as you don't get rewards on some cards so I can see them trying to cancel competition.

I think this is a good thing, buy now pay later is a predatory tactic to get people to buy stuff that they shouldn't.

You can always use spell check by clicking the last button on the first row block. This is the one to the left of "Quote". This will highlight any errors it thinks you need to address. Usually the rest of us will live with it.

Yeah my guess is this is driven by higher fraud / chargebacks on BNPL as well as competing with Chase's own promos / deferred interest and financing offers.

I wonder if this will apply to Amazon's in-house monthly payments? I'm currently paying down one of those myself, LOL.

It was a purchase I had to make anyway (and had the money for), but I like a free float when I can get it. In this case, it's ~$600, with six installments all billed to my Amazon Visa (can be billed to any card on file - does not have to be an Amazon card). The cool part about this arrangement is since it's not a Chase plan and it's billed through Amazon, I still get rewards on the installments just like it was any other Amazon purchase.

To be fair, I can see how it could be problematic for some. I admit this is a nice option to have, though.
