Odd... not me, but then I just have the store version and not the Amex version.

Sounds like it will only effect the Amex version account holders. E.g. if you have both, the Amex stays and store version is closed.

Yes.

The AMEX card version that came with (used to come with) In-Store Account and the Out-Of-Store Account; the in-store account is getting closed.

Now, it's just one or the other, and not both on one card.

Hopefully, this means we can solicit an upgrade to AmEx. I still have my store card and a closed AmEx, so I have never been eligible for the upgrade offer.

I got my letter today. I'm mortified .. I've had my store account since 1995 it has a 25K limit and the Amex (2008) has an 12000 limit. Is it possible to choose which card they close? I never use the Amex. They cut it from 25K during Covid and now I've not even bothered to put anything on it.

If it's like last time, it will merge the accounts and retain the opening date of the oldest account. Can you post the letter either a picture or the wording? I'm really curious to read it. And if there's any website to check. Sometimes those letters have a FAQ on the back.

I just got my letter today. I wasn't part of the initial conversion with the separate accounts a few years ago. I'm not sure why. My store line and my AMEX line are $25K each; the store line is a few months older than the AMEX line, so I'm not very concerned about AAoA down the line. It's always good to have a certain amount of zero balances, so the two separate accounts helped with that. Also, i'm not too concerned about UTIL, but I'm sure that will have an impact on some account holders.

IIRC, CLs were combined during the initial conversions. However, I'm not certain we will see that with the current conversions. The language in the letter didn't give any indications, but I'm assuming that the store card CL will just go away without reallocation (but I will be pleasantly surprised if CLs are combined and moved to the older TL).

I received the same letter. I still receive a Retiree Discount on my Regular Store Credit Card on my Macy's American Express Card so I was very upset thinking they are taking the Discount away. I called the 1-800-593-2543 as stated in the letter. This telephone number is for a Promotion NOT Customer Service so I called the store where I worked and got to Customer Service. The woman in Customer Service knew nothing about a letter being sent to Customers. She then went through all my Account and told me there was no letter sent to me from Macy and my Account is not being Closed. Customer Service said it would be noted in my Account if a letter was sent, and asked me if there was a Reference # on the Letter. I was told to avoid the letter and that it is a SCAM. Did anyone try calling?

I don't have two accounts, but I did get a "use your AmEx or we will CLD you" letter.

Guessing they're doing housekeeping over there in general.

Well, even WGN Chicago does kind of hint at part of the problem. They have the police out there over smash and grab retail theft rings every day, and they probably don't like operating in places where shrink from people filling bags and running out the front door is so high, and then the next day it's the same people even if the police were able to make any arrests, due to the SAFE-T Act.

Organized retail theft is not considered a "violent crime" so within 72 hours the judge has to let them out pending trial, on the promise to appear. It shouldn't be a shock that after laws like these get passed, all the retailers want to pack up and leave. The city lost four Walmarts shortly after too, and the company said those stores hadn't done anything except cost them money and it was getting worse.

"Underproductive" store doesn't just mean what sales are running.

We're dealing with a business environment brought on by a public sector that doesn't value jobs and prosperity and a robust tax base, so workers and shoppers have to suffer.

@MJ-san interesting, how was it worded? Do you also have the Classic Account type? I figured they would merge everyone into the AmEx side of the account.

The classic account is a bizarre setup, and it looks like this is the final wave.

It was worded just like that (tossed the letter already) - due to inactivity your Amex account is being closed and we are reissuing you a store card for your Macy's account. I don't know if this was a classic account- it is a 25 year old account from back when they started doing the President's Club Visa and you'd get two statements in the mail - one for Visa and one for Macys.

Confirmed with the (barely able to speak English) CS rep on the phone - no more dual accounts - it's either a store card or Amex and I get the store card. Folks getting the Amex still get the Star Rewards stuff.

Given the biggest advantage is 5% back (for Platinum) I can get that using my USB Cash+ ... so unless free shipping is worth it I'm not sure I'll keep using it. BUT it's my oldest open card now at 25 years, so can't really close it.

I just logged into my Macy's account, and it looks like the store card did indeed just go away (well, it's noted as "closed" and shows zero available credit). Unfortunately, they did not appear to have reallocated any of that CL to my AMEX account.

I finally got someone in Customer Service to tell me that a new Macys Red Card would be sent to me by the 20th which I never received - she even gave me my new last 4 digits of card. On July 21 my Red Card showed that it was closed. Never received my new card. I made a Online purchased on July 23 and it processed and I received order on July 26. I noticed today that they put the Order Charge on my AMEX Card and even transfer my Credit Limit to my AMEX Side of charge which is a higher limit of my two credit limits. My Retiree Discount was posted too. I think I can continue to use my current card. Looks like all is good!
