Hello Guys,

I'm at a crossroads with some pre-qualifications and new card options.

I'd really appreciate your insights on which path to take.

My main goals are to:

Open at least 2 more cards

Get one with a long 0% APR for balance transfers

Get another with 0% APR for purchases

Secure high credit limits (I keep utilization below 30% on all cards)

Here's my current situation:

Credit Profile:
- 800+ FICO 9 score across all bureaus
- 6% overall utilization among 3 credit cards
- 1 hard inquiry on Equifax and Experian (Chase, Oct 19, 2023), none on TransUnion

- Credit limits range from $2k to $26k, mostly around $15k

Existing cards:

2 Citi (AA $17k, Diamond $15k, both unused)

2 Amex, 2 Discover, 2 Capital One, 3 Wells Fargo, 2 US Bank, 2 Truist, 1 Chase, 1 Synchrony (Lowe's)

Current Options from which to choose 2 cards to apply for:
1. Chase: Pre-qualified me for a Slate Edge
2. Citi: Pre-qualified for a Double Cash and Custom Cash
3. PNC: Considering opening an account and applying for a card
4. FNBO: Considering opening an account and applying for a card

Questions:
1. Overall strategy: Considering my credit profile and existing cards would you recommend I go for lenders I already have cards with like Chase and Citi OR better odds with PNC and FNBO?

2. Citi Double Cash or Custom Cash: With two existing Citi cards (unused), how likely am I to be approved for a third? Which would you recommend?

3. Chase Slate Edge: Given my existing Chase card with 30% utilization on 15k CL, what are my chances of approval? Is it worth the hard pull?

Any advice, personal experiences, or insights would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks in advance for reading to this point!

You should make an initial plan like achieving 5% CB across all categories (minimized AF), getting travel cards to cover e.g. 20k of flights/hotels per year, getting crads to cover 5k of dining per year, etc..

Afterward, search around in this forum or on DOC to see which cards would be helpful to achieve your goals. Without that, you would end up collecting lots of cards that would never get used and may you need to pay lots of AF, that might not be necessary.

Your best choice is to start by listing your whole card history and figuring out what account you want from Chase. Chase will change what they need depending on the product you are interested in. After that we can help you sort out what kind of plan is good for your success. 5/24 only applies to Chase applications and covers the past 2 years.

Here I'll lay it out and you respond in the same fashion.

1. Why do you want a new chase card? What benefits are you looking for?

2. You mentioned Slate which is a BT card. Who is the debt with ?

3. which chase card do you currently have? <4500/15000 is what I see

When referring to 5/24, keep it simple. Doesn't matter if any were chase or truist. When applying for a new chase card, even with low utilization and 800+ scores, we see it's typically a hard rule that you haven't applied and were approved for more than 4 new trade lines in the last 24 months.

start with these questions and then we can talk about PNC n FNBO

Hi Superduper . Ill try to help and answer your questions based on your profile.

First off my opinion on your options to either choose a new lender or get cards with exsisting ones; based on your profile low inquiries and score you shouldn't have a problem choosing either option. I personally prefer to build relationships with new lenders but you have several already so either choice is a pretty good choice for you and your odds should be good either way you choose to go.

Secondly Citi allows you to have more than two cards so if you choose to get the custom cash or double cash those are both terrific cards with nice sign up bonuses and options and if you are pre qualified already thats a good sign of approval for them if you choose to go that route.

Third question reply: Run the pre approval with chase to see if they pre approve you for the card your wanting (It is currently back up) and good luck if you want to choose Chase.

With your profile you should have no problem with any of your choices. On a final note if it were me personally I would look into PNC if you can obtain a card with them and go for the wonderful PNC Cash unlimited Visa minimum 5k credit line with unlimited 2% cash back a 250.00 sign up bonus and 15 months of no interest on balance transfers. The Citi custom cash is a better offer over double cash imo because it offers a SUB of 200 AND 0% interest on both purchases and balance transfers. And the 5% in your top category isn't a bad feature . FNBO is also a nice choice if you have the option to open a card with them and I believe they even show you what your limit will be BEFORE you accept which is terrific.

I hope my opinions are helpful to you in some way and the very best of luck to you SuperDuper Let us know what you end up doing and take care.

There are no offers available on their dashboard once you log in, maybe wait until tomorrow if I end up applying for their Cash Unlimited Visa Sig? Or just opening the account and going right away for the card is enough, or I need to fund the account, etc..?

PNC pulls Experian from what I gather and Chase pulls Experian as well for me. So I need to be sure of which one I apply to first.

FNBO did not allow me to open a checking due to not servicing my area. So that would be a credit card application only. They pull Experian as well.

Citi pulls Equifax.

At this point I need to decide between what to do first and which lender. I already have 1 inquiry on Experian and 1 on Equifax.

Option 1) Chase first then PNC (both Experian)
Option 2) PNC first then FNBO (both experian)

Option 3) PNC and Citi ( Experian and Equifax)

Hope to pull the trigger by the end of the day.

Personally, I would consider:

4) Chase first, then Citi.

PNC can be a hard nut to crack with no offers, even with a deposit account relationship. X3 rejections for me and I also have a Biz account with them. Reps keep telling me to wait for an offer so I don't waste anymore HPs.

FNBO has been easy to crack for x2 different cards, but today's economy leads to lower starting limits and tough to get a CLI. My last x4 cli attempt s with them have been wasted HPs. Even using the AZEO method didn't help.

Not sure about chase, but Citi was easy to crack, happy to give CLIs, and lots of other offers throughout each year.

That's just my opinion and experience though. Everyone's different.

@Drifter73

Thanks ..

I am leaning towards that as well..

Since I imagine Chase is more sensitive to seeing a recent inquiry on experian if I try PNC first.

Also, since Citi pulls equifax for me, I will just go for that one and like you say they are great at giving offers and CLI for me as well, plus I am prequal.

Might as well just do:

1) Chase (Exp)

If Chase denies, try PNC for the sake of it.

2) Citi

and take if from there.
