AMEX Removes 3 Cards

Noticed today that American Express has removed the Cash Magnet, AMEX Everyday, and AMEX Everyday Preferred cards from their website. Likewise, trying to manually go to the links for the cards' pages gives an error and does not load. I have not seen/heard anything from AMEX about this. Wasn't planning on getting any of these cards, but wasn't sure if anyone might know additional info regarding this apparent removal? They were not the most popular AMEX cards, but still seemed like the Everyday lineup of cards had a decent amount of users.

Must be revamping their lineup.

Am looking forward to what new cards, if that, they'll bring. The younger the cards the better, the older...refreshes tend to suck imo.

I have an Everyday which was originally a Blue (with Membership Rewards Express Points). I keep it alive solely for its contribution to my FICO profile as it's one of my oldest accounts with the highest standalone credit limit. Aside from its FICO role, I really have no need for such an obsolete product. I'm ardently hoping for a more contemporary refresh or the opportunity to convert to a Blue Cash Everyday. Fingers crossed.

Hasn't Amex's company strategy been to go even more upscale than before? Hence the doubling down on prestige and AF hikes?

If so, I guess putting these three on the chopping block makes sense for them.

I think they're just being discontinued. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they weren't.

The ED/EDP sort of cannabilize the MR charge cards that Amex would rather recommend and market due to their higher fees. It'd be great if they were refreshed but I doubt Amex wants to take attention away from the revamped Gold and potential Green & Plat revamps likely within the next year.

The cash magnet was just uncompetitive and the BCE is their go-to no fee cash back card now. Hopefully they eventually raise the BCP's base to 1.5% or 2% though.

My EveryDay is (now) my oldest card, and it also started life as a Blue. Those commercials were so sexy... I NEEDED that really awesome see-through card with the semi-holographic blue square! It was everything I wanted out of a CC. Massive 'cool' factor. You could even see the CHIP inside! 😱 So high-tech, no one else had a CHIP!!!

No, I'm not being sarcastic. I was 20ish. That's genuinely what I thought of it 🤷‍♀️ I also drive a Golf, still (and it's my 4th one), because the "Da-da-da" commercial made an impression on me before I even had my license.

Need a no AF card without FTF. If they basically did the Bread AmEx, without it going through Bread/Comenity, I'd be on that.

I have the BBP, but it has a FTF 👎 I don't like there being a spend cap even though I don't hit it, since I do use it for large expenses that are category-less, like taxes and insurance.

I just logged into AmEx and my everyday preferred pages are intact. The list of cards available is also intact. Maybe just a glitch. The Everyday preferred recently underwent a design change. Maybe they're refreshing the photos.

Same here. Even yesterday the only cards I could see missing when i looked was the Cash Magnet and the Everday

No? I just checked again. They're definitely gone. Look at "all personal cards" for AmEx that you can apply to.

This doesn't affect cards you already have, so dunno why you're logging in to look at your own.

It'd be nice if they did, but I doubt they will. I think given they can charge higher fees on business cards and offer fewer protections/perks makes the 2x/2% okay to them. Going off of Amex's track record since 2017 or so, any additional benefits or change in earnings per dollar on the consumer side comes with a higher annual fee.

You're an existing cardmember so just grandfathered in if they are discontinuing them. They just changed the designs on the ED/EDP but also the legacy Blue has the same white design too. I'm guessing they did this to get all discontinued products on the same card with just the wording difference needed for replacement cards.

Amex has been offering to switch my cash magnet to a BCP for a few months now which I thought was weird considering my then-current credit situation. Them possibly discontinuing the card does make sense to me, I wonder if they will just offer better upgrades.
