Congrats on the auto increase! Even though you may not find it a huge one, it's still a great unsolicited increase.

AMEX Auto CLI

I was suprised today by an email from AMEX telling me they increased my limit, unasked for. I was at $22,000 and I carried a balance $3,000-$5,000 for a while, paying about $600 per month. I just didn't feel like paying it all off. Then one day about 3 months ago I paid it all off. About 5 days ago I charged about $9.000 on the card. Today they increased my limit to $28,600. So not a huge increase ($6,600) but it's nice they just gave it to me without having to ask for it. I was reluctant to ask for an increase because I didn't want to go through the providing proof of income etc., plus do I really need that large of a limit for personal use?

Curious, is there any data points as to how often they give unrequested CLI?

High limits are very helpful especially when your responsible with it. Meaning don't use what you cannot realistically pay off quickly. It's not cash.

lower utilization reported is beneficial for your credit report.

30,000 is my highest limit & I'd have to send every paycheck all summer long if I spend that much.
