U.S. Bank cap on Credit Limit?!

Does U.S. Bank restrict limits over $25,000?! This is our PFI--we have a $1.675m mortgage, and large sums of money in this bank--and have for many years. Yet, any time we open a new card, it's always $25,000. I think we have 3 or 4 cards now, each at $25,000. About to open the new Smartly Card for the 4% CB and will be highly disappointed with another $25,000.

Other banks often give us $90,000 or more.

It's sort of upsetting.

Is there a trick or workaround over that $25,000?!

Even Macy's gave us $80,000. But our PFI just gives us nothing...

Scores around 850 across board. Mortgage paid down to $150,000 from $1.675m. Zero credit inquiries. $0 debt, excluding mortgage. Just paid off all the vehicles. Income in the 7 figures annually.

Thank you!

I could be wrong but I think their personal cards are capped at $25k each. They'll do above that on business cards but are known to ask for tax returns and financial statements for consideration above that amount.

That stinks. They need to loosen their purse strings! They need to mimic Chase and BoA on having a special level for their top clients--and raise the cap if you fall into that threshold. 🥳

Thank you for the response!

Yes they can do higher than that out that gate. Friend was approved 35k out the gate for Alititude Reserve I believe was certanly over 30k. His HHI is 1.7 million. So US Bank is still conservative with that said the card can grow with time by either SP's or HP with some time use as well. I believe other people on here have some cards with them around 50-70k. They are not capped at 25k. He also has other cards at 50k-100k range. Current now he is putting 15-25k/mo through his AR card and hasnt seen an increase yet that i know of and got it back around march of this year but doubt he has asked as not near as credit savoy as many others. When he has a credit question he just asks me and give him the information i know then he acts upon it. He has yet to complain about the limit as he can charge and pay off within his given limit per month is reason I suspect.

Only way to get a soft pull CLI (possibly) is ensure your Credit reports are locked first(if unlocked you still might get a sp or it might be a ho no gurantees so that is why i say freeze them first) then request online a credit line increase if goes to review then likely they will likely need a HP. usually SP's with US Bank give 5k at a time every 6 months if I recall correctly. If willing to incur a HP CLI not on the smartly cash but a card that you have had > 6 months would be to call them and directly talk with them and let your intention be known on what kind of CL you think would be adequate and they will submit the information to UW and see how it turns out. They are going to want to see some use on whatever limit you get with the simply cash card before increasing whatever limit they give you.

Cash+, Connect and Go are capped at $25,000

Reserve is not capped, I stopped asking at $79,000.00 once I realized how stupid chasing CLs is. There is "I need not to worry about reported utilization" and then there is "lemme pretend I ain't about to file BK in a year or two"

You need to apply for a CLI or new card, then immediatly call CS and ask for reconsideration of your credit limit. They will increase it.

I sure hate to ensure an HP--but I may have to bite the bullet. Especially for the Smartly Card. 4% is so worth it! Especially if you make a massive purchase like a car or jewelry.

It seems accusatory and I'm not one to allow anyone to accuse me of anything foul--including online. I'm going to gift you with the benefit of the doubt, that you were by no means defaming my character... Secondarily, there are THOUSANDS of people who earn well in excess of $100,000 every month... So I'm not sure why you are making it seem as though such limits do not make sense. Purchased my wife's last SUV on a Cash Back card--you can often either get the 3% transaction fee waived completely with a dealership--or split 50/50. With at least a 2% CB card, you will essentially be covering your TTNL for free. Not bad at all and worth the swipe for sure. Plus it gives you 30 more days before it's due--which means 30 more days of interest earned on the money, before using it to pay off the card.
