Utah First Credit Union Orange Platinum Visa

I've searched this entire forum and was unable to find anything about this great CU Visa. About 1.5 years post Chapter 7 discharge, I applied for several cards in an attempt to get approval on any card that I could. A few days later I noticed a couple of missed calls and an email from an unknown area code. After the third call with no answer, the branch manager sent me a second email stating that she had been trying to get in touch with me about my Visa application. I initially thought it was a scam because I didn't even remember applying for the card. I immediately called the manager back and was asked to reply to her initial email that asked me about 10 very personal questions which further made me think it must be a phishing scam, but I took a chance. The manager asked me about my BK and the numerous inquiries on my credit reports. She stated that she understood that I was trying to rebuild my credit but cautioned me about continued credit card applications. After a very long conversation, she informed me that she was going to approve my application with a 5K starting limit which is exactly what I asked for. My interest rate is a fixed 13.9% which I thought was insane considering my past credit history! In closing, you do not have to live in Utah to be approved. I highly recommend this Credit Union due to its excellent customer service and willingness to work so hard to get in touch with me, when I feel that most financial institutions would have called me once and then forgotten about me, but their branch manager just kept trying until she reached me. Now, that's customer service!

Do you know what credit bureau they use? Which version of fico?

Can you please explain why it is a "great CU Visa" (without us having to open a second browser)?

Is that thge message you rcd when you applied? I have not receievd any calls or emails nor do I have any communication that shows credit line etc.

Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. For me, personally, if I am going to bring up a little/lesser-known card, I for sure will state its virtues, and provide a link.

I guess the virtue is the fixed 10% APR for the life of the purchase/balance transfer (but only until Jan 31?) and earning one 'point' per dollar?

(I can't seem to find the rate after the 10% promo ends?)

Yes. That is the same message that I initially received. It is possible that the branch manager is out of office or similar. I would give it time or you could just call and inquire on the status.

Just FYI. My rate after the initial 10% is 13.9% fixed, but it's possible that the rate could vary depending on your current credit score. My score was definitely under 700 and about 1.5 years post chapter 7 discharge when I was approved.

Hey, were you ever approved?

They just approved a $1,000 personal line of credit and I was told by the manager that I qualified for much more than I asked. My Experian Fico was at 651 at the time of my instant approval. I freaking LOVE this credit union!

Wallet Hub and other sources gave this credit union a poor report in the 1's and 2's. Need to read the comments. Also, the card is a 1 : 1 for rewards.

Cannot see in today's world why a person would pursue the credit union.

For beginners or rebuilders I would even say keep looking. The 9.0% is only through December 31, 2025 then it moves the customer to regular rates.

Caveat Emptor! Buyer beware. Likely why this credit union has no write ups in the MyFico Forum.

Yeah, I didn't see the negative reviews until long after I was approved. Having said that, I have had nothing but positive experiences with them and they appear to give very high limits. My regular APR is just 13.9% Fixed which is less than the typical 18% rate offered by other more popular credit unions that most people refer to here. 13.9% coming shortly after chapter 7 discharge and a 650 FICO score is very impressive in my experience. I think that if a person is looking to rebuild, then this is the perfect credit union that has shown to give second chances.
