Best Fixed Rate Cards... are there any great ones still out there ?

Hello... just wanted to ask my friends here if there are still some low rate fixed APR credit cards still out there. I'm guessing they would be through a credit union... and I'm fine with that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance !

Might be wrong, however most of the single digit fixed APR cards went the way of the dodo.

Most switched to variable rates in 2024, a few grandfathered current holders, with new applicants as variable rate holders.

Maybe someone here has an exception.

Lower current APR's (Variable) with zero BT, zero CA, No FTF's for excellent credit that are open to many would be "SDFCU" or those that have military connections "Navy".

I believe SDFCU low is ~11% and Navy ~12%.

My last single digit fixed APR Visa went from 9.9 to 10.9 recently and this was a platinum Visa from SCSCU,a geofenced credit union. I'm not aware of any bank or credit union with a fixed rate card.

Nice fixed rate, but both geo locked and with a BT & CA fee's.

If anyone knows some good ones it would be @galahad15. He is always into low rate fixed APR cards.

For me, I prefer to keep lenders on the hook which often provide either 0% APR or low APR with no BT fee offers in the event I need to roll a payment. Either way, I'd probably be paying effectively 5% or less in most cases for a one-year repayment which would beat most low APR cards. I get regular offers from several of my lenders including Capital One, Discover, Bank of America, and Barclays. Even Chase gives me some good offers. (Using the "My Chase Loan" feature on my Chase Sapphire Reserve, I qualify for up to $25,000 with APR of 7.99 to 11.99% based on loan amount and duration. (12 billing cycles shows the lower APR when I checked further.) I previously kept a "Low APR" contingency card "just in case" but decided I would rarely if ever use it and had other credit options to deal with financing.

Found a Credit Union Visa that is geo-restricted to a city of 8000 residences that offers a 9.9% fixed apr no AF for purchases or cash advances (note however, no rewards).

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I'm in the state of Michigan. My biggest hurdle is credit unions that are geo-fenced. Like most everyone here I typically PIF. But I still like to have a go-to low interest rate card in my collection without AF. Always been a fan of having at least one. Really stinks when the CU's change the terms and raise the interest rate... but I'm hoping I can still find one good . My current best low rate card for that is Simmons Bank which is 11.5% variable. They've been really good about not raising it to like 18% or 20%. Had this card for probably 15 years. For new applications they raised it to 14.50% - 22.50% Variable Purchase APR. So I'm hoping they keep the rate low on my card and not change the terms.

Good info. thanks. I hadn't even thought of the "My Chase Loan" feature. I have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card and a couple of their business Ink cards but never used that feature. I may check and see what I qualify for in terms of APR.

Sorry -- have been mostly away from the forum until very recently, due to ongoing 20+-hour workday commitments and medical issues, so just noticed this thread.

There were quite a few good options referenced in the posts in this related thread. Arguably the most impressive single-digit, fixed-rate card offering mentioned was in post #16, courtesy of @PayAndProsper.

Agree 100% with the excellent info listed above by @Kforce. In 2024, I went from having 6 low fixed-rate APR cards to only 3 left standing (grandfathered at existing low fixed rates, all closed to new apps for rates below 10% though - Dover FCU, PACU, and BoA) after the card issuers increased the rates on 3 of my cards to double-digit, variable-rates APRs. Single-digit, fixed-rate cards are indeed currently quite an endangered species.

There are fortunately still however a few rare CUs that still offer fixed-rate cards below 10%, as listed in this thread

Thanks for chiming in... this is great info. I appreciate your input. I'll definitely check out the related threads and posts you mentioned. They look like great options. Pretty sad it's really hard to find the low fixed APR's anymore. It's nice to have a couple of these kind of cards in our financial toolbox. I'll keep you guys posted if I get approved for any of them and how the current process went.

Soooo... I wanted to fill you in on my latest quest / adventure to find a true single digit, fixed low rate APR CC. I did some digging with Vision Federal Financial Credit Union (VFFCU) mentioned in one of the older threads you told me about since it looked like the very best of the best. Wanted to verify if this unicorn still existed and if the card was still the real deal. I'm happy to report their Visa Platiunum is still alive and well with a fixed rate of 7.5 %. I got approved for a 5K CL I was pretty happy with. I definitely had to jump through some hoops. It's a small, old-school credit union and joining it was a slow and tedious process. I think they only have like 3 branches in North Carolina ! Had to join some North Carolina Conusumers Council to join for $20 in order to become a member (I live in MI). Otherwise you're not getting CU membership unless you live in the area or have family members who are already members if I recall.

Congratulations on your amazing approval for the 7.5% F fixed card from VFFCU @Live4Fishing, I am 100% delighted and ecstatic to hear that you were approved, and that is definitely very outstanding and exciting news!

Quick question for you please: was just curious how you were successfully able to join the North Carolina Consumers Council please, if you very kindly wouldn't mind sharing just a little more info? For example, did you have to call a phone number to join it? The only reason I ask is because the North Carolina Consumers Council web page currently appears to return a web browser error message when I try to navigate to it, and even when it was still up and available, when I tried to make a $20 donation several times to join VFFCU, I received an error message and the payment didn't appear to go through. (I even sent them a message through their web portal to let them know about my donation payment error messages, but I never received a response back from them unfortunately.) Thanks!

To join the North Carolina Consumers Council I just went to the website and enrolled there. I put the $20 fee on a credit card. You'll get a follow-up email with your membership number which you'll need when you join VFFCU to become a member. I didn't experience any of the issues with their website when I joined that you described. As of today it appears to be up and running. You may want to try both Chrome and/or the Edge browsers to see if it works. I didn't find any phone number on their website to call them. I would check back periodically to see if you keep getting the error message. Wonder if they were doing maintenance on their webpage when you were trying to join. Let us know how it goes. Hopefully you'll get through.

After I joined their group. I went to VFFCU website and submitted an online appliation for membership and submitted it. I never got any email for response back after I sucessfully submitted it. You'll need upload both your drivers license and Social Security card for that (I photocopied mine and scanned to PDF for the upload). I then called the credit union and asked what the status was. The CSR got some information from me and asked how I was eligible for membership. I then had to give her the North Carolina Consumers Council membership number given to me. The CSR then had to physically mail me the VFFCU membership packet which you fill out by hand and mail back to them. After all that I got my membership approved and then applied online for the Visa Platinum. No email or confirmation I got approved. I had to call back again to find that out. You'll have to make an online banking account and then you'll see the status of the credit card on your dashboard. Like I said... they are old school and pretty basic. But the card was worth the effort involved. Keep me posted on how it goes.
