Is UMB Simplicity Visa Geofenced?

The thread the other day mentioning UMB Bank made me curious, so I poked around on their site a bit. Their Simplicity Rewards card looks interesting to me. Unlimited 3% cash back on gas, groceries, dinning, and discount stores. That's a big chunk of my spending. It got me thinking if this would be a good option for a super simple setup. Pair this with a 2% everything card like the Fidelity Rewards Visa and it could bring in a lot of cash with only 2 cards. A lot less hassle when you only have to log in to two places. It'd be a lot less to manage.

Anyone have this card? How is UMB Bank? Is their app user friendly?

The main UMB one is geofenced but the affinity versions arnt. ie the classic industries version https://promo2.classicindustries.com/simply-rewards-classic-visa-credit-card

Also, what is the geofenced location? Do you have to live in a state where there branches are? I know they just acquired a bank, so do those areas count, too?

affinity as meaning the same card just branded different. it has the same earnings.

3 X the Points on Grocery Stores, Discount Stores, Gas Stations, Restaurants, Fast Food Restaurants

Like the BoA Custom Cash vs the Susan G Komen custom cash, or the american quarter assn horse custom cash, its the same card just branded different.

Also geofenced to locations they have a physical presence

So, Classic Industries is a company that offers the Simplicity Rewards Visa. Got it. Is there a list of other companies and/or banks that offer the affinity version?

Thanks for the list. I sort of know what to search for now and found the American Hereford Association offers this card. Beef! Any other organizations beside this and Classic Industries?

I don't know what intrigues me about this card. It's kind of like the Savor and BCE put together. Not excalty, but close. I guess I am just drawn to consolidating and carrying less cards.

I have this card. I used it pretty often but now I have the Redstone Visa (got during the brief period of time when the card wasn't geofenced) which is similar 3% categories and is 5% in restaurants and gas. That has a cap whereas the UMB card is unlimited, so if my spending ever increases a lot, I'll definitely be using it more.

I've noted that UMB seems to send balance transfer offers regularly. The most recent was a few months ago and I believe was a 3% fee and 12 months no interest. Not too shabby since most of the ones I've gotten from other banks are 5% fee for not even a year.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. Like I said earlier, the possibility of consolidating 3% categories and eliminating cards intrigues me. Right now I carry the BCP and Savor in my physical wallet which gives me 4.4% (effective) on grocery and 3% on gas, dining, entertainment, and transit. I also have the BCE which adds all online purchases at 3% including Amazon and Walmart Pay in stores. I don't carry BCE since it is just in a few of my digital wallets. So, this 2 card (well, 3) gives me 3% in most of the categories I spend in. My curiosity with the UMB card is whether I could scrap the BCP and Savor, carry only one card, and get the same cash back. At this point, I feel like the major credit card issuer's systems & support are worth the minor hassle of carrying an extra card. Plus, there is some redundancy built in if an account gets compromised or there is a technical glitch that affects one of the cards.

But if I did go the UMB route, I'd probably try for the Hereford card with the cows on it. I mean who doesn't want a cow card in there wallet, right!

True dat, @Varsity_Lu! For us card enthusiasts, sometimes it's all about the aesthetics!

Like you, I keep back-ups in my wallet for lender diversity and in the event rewards are nerfed, or for back-ups in the event my cards are compromised or lost. I can't tell you how many times I appreciate having extra cards open to benefit my card age (oldest card was once closed), rewards (I've product changed many cards over the years), and for flexibility against changes and nerfs.

Yes, they should be. If not, just give it time. The bank they just acquired was Heartland Financial.

I live in Minnesota, there was no UMB bank presence at all. After their merger with Heartland Financial, they now have a presence here in Minnesota. I notice on their checking account page, Minnesota has been added to the list of states eligible to open a checking account online. And customers with a Heartland Financial checking account in Minnesota will be having their accounts transferred to UMB in July with a new UMB debit card being sent to them. And if you try to open a checking account on the Heartland Financial Minnesota Bank & Trust website or credit card, it redirects you to UMB's website to do it there.

If UMB isn't counting the new states from the merger yet, just give it time, they will. There's a lot that goes in a bank merger and a lot they need to do on their end.

Yeah, this thread is almost 3 months old and after more research, I've changed my plan a bit. I am probably not going with this card even though the cow card is very cool. Still, the idea of just a few cards with lots of 3% categories is appealing to me.
