AMEX has banned me from new account perks

Here is the notification I received while applying online for a Everyday Blue Cash personal card. I currently have 4 business cards open.

Citylights17, you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees. In determining eligibility, we considered your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors.

Would you like to proceed?

I have closed maybe 3 AMEX cards (Bonvoy, Green, Hilton) in my 5 year relationship with them. As far as BTs I don't think I've done that many but I have used BTs to move off of AMEX denying them the interest. I converted a Green to Gold briefly for a bonus and then received a clawback of the points. Just the normal consumer I thought who had been crafting about avoiding annual fees.

Some issuers like Citi for example cut you off from the bonus cash portion of the offer but still allow you to take advantage of the zero APR periods if you find that a valuable perk. But not at AMEX I guess.

This might be the reason. What did you do that caused the clawback? Did you close the Gold before the 2nd annual fee hit?

Have you ever had a Blue Cash card before? They only let you get a SUB one time per card family. So, if you've ever gotten a SUB for this family, even if you closed the card, you are not eligible.

I thought 4 AmEx CCs (plus charge cards being seperate) was the limit anyways? Or maybe its 5 now?

The Amex algorithm for people not being eligible for a SUB is a mystery. I was not able to get a sub for Schwab investor card (the blue one) but had no problem with the Schwab Plat, Vanilla plat and Biz Plat. If I had to guess the combination of the 3 cancellations within 5 years and you getting a clawback on points is what caused the message regarding eligibility. Amex is very weird often times

I had this banner show up for a while for me after doing just ONE BT for a few hundred dollars. So IMHO it's the BT's. I waited a bit and wish I can remember how long but no more than 3-6 months and was able to get my AMEX Delta Reserve with the SUB offer it had.
