U.S. Bank Closed 2 CC's -- they suspect are in danger of, or being used for fraud!? WHAT!?

This is really a 1st -- never heard of such a thing before! These cards are just 30 days old. I need advice--this will tank my Fico Score (which my recent 'spree'took it down to 717 from 759! AND, I really want to retain these cards!

Has anyone ever heard of this or seen a letter like I received??! (see my attachement). I got 2 letters in the mail like this 3 days ago.

USBank wont talk to me....

To top it off... just a day later, I got a call on my Ring Camera yesterday from someone at my front door who recited the last 4 digits of my cxl'd cards Identifying himself as being from The County's Dept of Adult Protective Services asking to do a wellness check after claiming they were notied by USBank of "possible financial crimes againt a 'senior' individual and suspected elder abuse!"

OK...I am 66 run a business and have accounts at USBank!! Its all ludicrous and unexplainable. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this???

I really need advice from one of the senior contributors, moderators and anyone that can lend advive--please?

Just a guess here but it sounds like your recent spree may have triggered USB to shut you down, like they suspect maybe someone else was opening accounts in your name.

Not sure that you can really do anything to convince them otherwise, at least from what I've seen when banks flag something for fraud there's no recourse, other than trying to get back in with them eventually if you so choose.

Don't know what to say about the home visit either but honestly I'm really surprised that they'd come out and make a house call to check.

I'm older than you, but the only abuse I've gotten from USB is they claim I have a low turd score. Didn't keep them from approving two cards and paying me the sub.

if I'm you and I'm unable to get them to reverse the decision by just calling them/speaking to a supervisor

I file a CFPB complaint basically outlining that the account isn't being used for fraud and you would like to request to have the accounts reinstated.

it puts your file/letter on the desk of somebody who would actually be able to help you.

@BenConrad I was a banking and credit card customer with US Bank. Today just credit card customer only. I have had them deny credit card transactions because basically the amount being charged was well out of normal range at that store. To balance the books so to speak they blocked a stolen check from being cashed. I have learned over the course time anything that I am going to their credit card for that is out of normal range is to warn them first.

All that said, in your case the way that letter is constructed they do not want talk just written correspondence. I would write a letter stating yes I applied for both of those cards. Next I would state the reason(s) why you applied for each card. Then ask if they can re-open the accounts. In banking we are fairly much a creatures of habit with our deposits amd when we pay our bills. When that long extablished trend is broken that maybe a sign there is a problem. US Bank underlying philosophy is they want the customers spending their money and not the fraudster. Today's environment fraud is at an all time high. The fraudsters are very good at what they do and are devising new ways to separate people from their money. The schemes work to.

Unfortunately you may have been tagged as a bust out candidate due to the rapid increase in new accoints and quantity of HPs. Alternatively, they may suspect identity theft.

If there is a USBank office in your area, schedule an onsite visit with an account manager. Bring identity info.

Such good detectives on this forum. That spree was pretty high gear and involved lots of major banks, I guess I'm not surprised it set off some flags. People seem to get away with the sprees better when they focus on credit unions. It is good to see someone over the age of 60 getting a gemini crypto card though, as it's a relief to see crypto breaking right through the generational gaps.

I think the bigger issue for you right now should be clearing up the matter with APS and your local PD.

Once that's done, and once they've cleared your case, then you can bring that back to US Bank (in a branch) and work on getting these re-opened, maybe.

I realize this whole thing was frustrating, but it's good (actually) to see banks and other entities and companies actually looking out for people this way. It's better than letting something that seems fishy continue on (and someone possibly being abused) because cash is cash and looking the other way is easier.

Your "spree" was ridiculous enough for bank to assume that a senior citizen is being taken advantage of ...as in someone applying in your name. They also acted on that suspicion and decided to alert proper agency.

You may feel that's silly and crazy but what you did and what constitutes "normal" with some that frequent this forum is not how "normal" customers behave.

Great point. Application sprees are typically very abnormal, only common among us, and we're not very common.
your age, very easy to believe someone could be opening accounts in your name to get some benefits for 1-2 months and leave you with the results.

I am sure US Bank, and every other bank has seen this over and over again, which is why this happened to you.

i am surprised they hadn't tried calling you.

This whole matter is scary.

Since I have worked with counties in the past, I have never heard of them sending some one out from a County Human Services Division of Adult Services with credit card(s) last four digits on a wellness check. NOT!

When wellness checks are done, the local law enforcement/sheriff's are notified and they will go to the location and attend to the needs at hand. In the event they have to, there may be a forced entry (laws generally will work for this). Then, if need be, they will alert emergency services for the location and the individual may receive needed medical attention as required or transported to the appropriate facility (medical or incarceration). There are ocassions when a County Social Worker may attend the situation but, that is unusual and often would have law enforcement accompany them for personal safety.

Unreal, this sounds and smells fishier than fish in the market!

US Bank would not go to the lengths of alerting (I don't believe it) the County. They do their process for possible fraud and take any necessary actions legal/otherwise and keep on going.

In the event you are in an area where you could visit a US Bank Branch with proof of identity and such, it may well pay to see them.

I gotta be honest - that spree was an entertaining read for me and I want to see more of them lol. The $5k cash advance thrown in at the end for good measure had me laughing pretty hard. Pretty legendary for someone to go so hard in the credit card game that the authorities came by to make sure they weren't under deress.

I have mixed feelings regarding your situation. There may be more to this than meets the eye. These types of sprees are not unsual. I doubt that USB takes those these measures very often.

If USB risk assessment deemed you high risk without any actual fraud being committed it would normally just cancel the cards.

Me personally I would take a welfare check as almost an insult. Would it have occurred if you were 30 years old? I doubt it. Maybe USB meant well but it felt that just because being 66 years USB some cognitive decline is possible . That's not that old first of all and secondly it's not there place to take such action.

Say good riddance and move on. Seriously doubt any subsequent action will reverse the decision made.
