Do balance transfers could towards usage for CLIs?

A friend and I were debating this recently. I don't believe they do. He's adament that they do. Who's right?

As stated above they would count as usage where CLIs are concerned. Maybe you're confusing eligible purchases where it relates to meeting spend for SUBs. In that case they generally wouldn't count.

I thought it was just actual spending that counts for usage. I remember reading a post awhile ago where a person upset that he hadn't received a CLI from Cap 1. He had low spending and but had done a few sizeable BTs over the year. The reason they gave him was low usage. Maybe it depends on the bank?

Maybe, but then again maybe being they had to give him a denial reason, that one just happened to be the one up to the plate at the time. Cap One can be a bugger for some people when it comes to CLIs. I'd wan't to see more DPs citing that reason before I jumped on that train.

Any answer to this will be anecdotal, but in my experience it's lender specific.

For example, Capital One used to respond to BTs as if they were organic usage - I got many CLIs with them back in the day due to this - but not so much any longer. On the other hand, my very seldom used NFCU CashRewards card got a $4k CLI (the only one ever) right after I took them up on a BT promo.
