Thought I would share my experience in PC'ing my BofA Travel Rewards Card to a Customized Cash Rewards Card which I successfully did as of today.

I tried on few occasions over the 1st year of holding the TR Card to PC to a CCR Card, but BofA Advanced Solutions would not allow the option until today, a few days after the 1st year of opening the account.

Had a bunch of rewards bonus on the TR Card still, from fullfilling the initial bonus, SUB. But was not finding any current expenses to use them on. The agent warned I might lose the rewards upon account conversion, so I went ahead and cashed them in for 60%, cash value. Which is fine, since I don't plan in the next year to have any expenses I could charge to the card and get the full 1 to 1 value. Also I wanted to end the life of the TR Card so as to have the option on getting a new one with the Rewards SUB down the road (note: probably get the Premium Rewards Card next, better SUB). The DP's are few on this, with some getting full 1 to 1 conversion value, but I decided not to risk it. I probably should have explored the gift card option, oh well.

The biggest advantage of PC'ing my TR Card to a CCR Card will be having a CCR Card with no FTF with the better rewards of the CCR Card categories, as reported by many (DP's) on Reddit.

BofA will be sending a replacement card with a new CC number, according to the agent.

After you receive it, please call them and confirm it still lacks a FTF 👍😁. I opened a BofA PR with the intent of doing this as well at the 1 year mark, for the no FTF. So I am very interested in confirmation!

And yes, I don't think there's many exceptions to them allowing you to PC a card until it's 1 year old... has to do with you both agreeing to "lock in" fees till then, I believe.

The new card agreement will show up in the Statements and Documents section online a couple days after the proudct change is complete, and you can confirm in the account summary document that there will be no "Foreign transaction" section listed under fees.

I am curious, then.

In theory, if I were to PC my Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards (CCR) card to a Travel Rewards card, then, after a year, product change back to a CCR card, assuming that there are no policy changes, I would be able to retain the zero FTF terms on my CCR, as well?

I am not in dire need of another card to use internationally, but this may a worthwhile route to expand my international options.

That's interesting. Congrats on locking down that APR with a major bank like BoA; that's a diamond. Even though we don't look to pay interest, at all, that is a better rate than an average personal loan for someone with excellent credit.

I am wondering if I do the PC and make the case that the card is advertised as no FTF, if they would change it. I suppose the only way to find out, for sure, is to give it a try.

Thanks again for the response!

I am not interested in opening another account, much less with BoA. It would not be worth the HP or any effect to my credit profile due to metrics associated with new revolvers, personally.

The only reason I opened the CCR, in the first place, was to have a credit card that reported my FICO 08 TransUnion score. I am aware that there are other ways to get a free FICO 08 TransUnion score (i.e. Experian trials and now, CreditWise), but I wanted a card that reported it, at the time. The 5.25% cash back is good, but the $2,500 limit is not, in my opinion. The only thing that would have been interesting to me—at all, and even then, only slightly—would be opening up the current card to fee-free use, internationally. As long as the process wouldn't be too complex, I would be willing to do that.

That said, I did call in to see about initiating this process. I see now, firsthand that even getting the initial PC is not as straightforward as it is with other institutions. After speaking with various reps, in different departments, on different calls, I have not even been able to get the CCR PC'd to a Travel Rewards. If it has been an issue to get it changed in the first place, I can only imagine the process of looking to get it transfered back.

As I said before, I would go through with it as long as the process weren't too complex. Unfortunately, it is, for me. The juice is not worth the squeeze. For now, I am letting it go.

Basically, I wonder if the policy is to strictly not change the terms, or if the policy is that whatever the agreed upon terms are will be honored, without change; the nuance there being that if I could get them to lower my APR's margin or eliminate the FTF, it would stay that way (barring penalties resulting from failing to hold my end up through on-time payments). I suppose the only way to find out, for sure, is to give it a try.

Thanks again for the response!

Your thinking too hard. They will just tell you to apply for it. And why wouldn't you, when there is a SUB to be had.

I don't see anything wrong with trying something out.

To answer your question: I wouldn't apply for it because I am, currently, "in the garden." I am not interested in opening another account, much less with BoA.

@PayAndProsper , you might consider PCing one of your NFCU cards to the Flagship? There is no FTF and it has other travel benefits. Just a thought.

Your account should be in good standing (e.g., responsible credit use, on-time payments).

One Customized Cash Rewards card per two years (generally): While you can hold multiple Customized Cash Rewards cards, you usually can't apply for a second one within a 24-month period. Product changing may allow you to bypass this restriction, but this is a strategy discussed in the Reddit community.

Potential loss of rewards: Bank of America advises using up your rewards before downgrading.

According to Reddit discussions:

Some users have successfully product changed their Premium Rewards card (and other cards) to the Customized Cash Rewards.

One user reported being told their Premium Rewards card was "locked" and not eligible for product change, highlighting the potential for inconsistent information.

A product change from a card with no foreign transaction fee (FTF), like the Premium Rewards or Travel Rewards, can sometimes result in a Customized Cash Rewards card without an FTF, which is a desirable feature.

In summary, while there's no guarantee, it's worth trying to product change your Premium Rewards card to a Customized Cash Rewards card by calling Bank of America.

Today I also converted my Unlimited Cash Rewards to a CCR. Most importantly for those of you on the fence about timing, this UCR was only 10 months old. Thus confirming what I've seen on Reddit that account conversions have no required age of account. Although it would seem that 6 months is the minimum datapoint found by others. Just a role of the dice after that.

So that makes 3 CCR's, I'll give it some time here and then put in for the BofA PR card. So as to have 1 more, no FTF CCR conversion for the future.

Here's one:

The key with BoA is you need to end up in the right department. Only the Advanced Client Solutions team can do product changes - the direct number for them is 866-866-2059*. If you follow the call tree by calling the number on the back of your card there's a good chance you never make it to the right department to actually be successful. Such is the joy of large banks...

* You should be able to search and verify this number is really BoA, and not just trust some random person posting this on the Internet.

Also note that that post specifies that changing TO a "Travel Rewards" card was an option from the PR. So should be no issue doing a two-step change *shrugs*. That will also be 3 years old data by the time I get around to it, so will see what happens at that point.

If your not using that PR card. I would start calling now to try and PC it. I think they make notes each time and eventually allow it. Like at the end of the 1st year. Here is the Google AI reply, note it says 6 months, some have been able to PC.

Yes, you may be able to product change your Bank of America Premium Rewards card to a Customized Cash Rewards card, but the process can be tricky and may require persistence.

Key Points:

Calling is key: You'll need to call Bank of America customer service to request the product change.

Be persistent: Some Reddit users report needing to call multiple times or speak to different representatives to get the request approved.

Eligibility: You can request a product change six months after opening your Premium Rewards account.

Be prepared for potential hurdles and consider the information from Reddit users about the process.

It's not even 3 months old yet, so no, I'm not gonna start calling now, lol.

Received my new card today. Same account number as my PC'd Travelers Rewards. There was no mention of any FTF fees in the contract. There was no explicit mention of NO FTF fees, just language on how foreign currency transactions would be converted. Thus as stated before, dp's suggest, there is no FTF fee for this PC'ed BofA CCR.

NOTE: In short, I will receive the contract/card for my UCR PC'ed to CCR shortly, will compare the contracts on FTF. Should appear on this card.
