I called C1 today and asked why 2 of the 3 cards I have with them report to all three CRAs within a few days after the statement cuts but my Savor card reports to TU and EQ a few days after but not EX for the last 2 months. It's the only card with them I carry a balance on so I was curious. Yvette in FL was affable and also baffled. She asked if I needed the report updated because I was buying a house or another immediate reason. I told her no, just curious. She requested a mid-cycle update from EX and said because today is Saturday I should see an update Monday.

Forgot that I made a post about Capital One slow reporting about a year and a half ago until I started searching for posts on it. Back then it was slow reporting to EX that was frustrating. Now my complaint with their reporting is that it's all 3 CRAs that are slow on 3 of my 4 cards with them. My Savor ($95AF version) and Venture X both have the same due date and statement closing dates (usually 6th or 7th based on 30 or 31 day month) and are now consistenly taking 10-15 days to report for all 3. Another Savor (former SavorOne, long story) that typically closes the 10th or 11th takes almost as long as well. Meanwhile my QS which typically closes on the 25th or 26th has never taken more than 6-7 and is usually 3 or 4 days to report. It's the oldest of my C1 accounts FWIW. Amex, Discover, and NFCU all report in a reasonable amount of time like the QS (we'll see if Disco changes). My only complaint with NFCU is they are slower than molasses to post transactions, but I'll save that for another post.

Same here. I have a QS and a Savor. My payments for the QS are due on the 1st of the month, and EQ and TU both update with the new balance by the 8th, but lately EX hasn't been updated until the 25th.

For instance, last month the balance for my QS posted with EQ and TU on the 7th and the 8th of June, respectively. However, EX didn't update until 6/25.

This month, EQ and TU both updated on the 8th, however EX still hasn't updated yet and it's already the 20th. I'm going to give them until the 25th again and if it still isn't updated then I'll start making some calls to see what's going on.

I'm thinking this has something to do with the new merger? I'm saying that because I have two cards with them, and the bureaus used to update the balances individually a few days after the close of each statement. However, lately the balances for both have been updating around the same time, even though the statement for my QS closes at the beginning of the month and the statement for my Savor closes around the 19th. So, it seems as if they're reporting around the same time now.

That said, maybe with the influx of new accounts it has to handle, C1 is trying to cut down on the number of times per month it reports to EX by reporting all the cards for each customer at the same time each month instead of doing them separately? Idk. It's the only thing I can think of because this is crazy.

I'm giving it another 2 weeks and then I'm disputing the balance as incorrect with experian.

I paid my balance down from 2200 to 120, I've heard their reporting issue is especially bad when you pay down big balances.

I posted this on the other thread like this a few days ago. Personally, I don't think Cap One is the problem. Experian is lazy in a lot of what it does.

From this thread:

Capital One not Reporting to Experian

Cap One did not report to Experian for me in July either. The other two always update Cap One info within a day or so of my statement date which is the 15th for all my cards. Experian's last update on my Cap One cards was June 16th. I don't think it's a Cap One issue, though. I suspect Experian is just lazy.

I have a different theory.

when companies sent over the information to the bureaus, they sent over the info for all their customers who's statement closed. So let's say you have your acct reported today. Experian now has to comb through every other customer who's info was reported today. On top of that, they also have to comb through all the info reported from the previous days and upcoming days. Creating a back log, which just gets worse and worse.

Because capital one is such a large lender and has so many customers out there. It takes the bureaus longer to comb through everything compared to a lower volume issuer. why doesn't it take equifax and Transunion longer as well? I can't answer that part, maybe faster computers?

Huge life decisions are made based off your credit, so people just don't want to wait 3 month old information on their report, especially when they work hard to pay down a balance to improve their score and cant witness the results. I don't think that's asking too much, I mean if you missed a payment that update right away. If you have an inquiry the bureaus are updated in seconds. So wanting up to date positive changes isn't asking too much. I can't understand why an issuer would ever close an account because of that.

is it capital ones fault, or the bureaus fault? I don't think anyone really knows for sure, but it also doesn't really matter.

it is odd right?

I mean it is "their money" but then again.. its all of "our money"

so, I know it seems like the bureaus they pull for approvals are the ones that usually get info reported first if that makes sense...

I also think they pay to access your credit and to report to your bureaus, but in the FCRA, it does stipulate they are to regularly and practically update your balances.. pretty much at the same time every month. And it's naggy in my view to dispute, but when we do work so hard to get balances down and keep credit scores high. It makes a difference. I have a couple of cards that haven't reported several thousands of dollars worth of payments that zeroed them out atm, and I really want to apply for a new card or two, but I want my util to be at 9% not 12% lol

Hmm, I would say If you dispute after a week or two, or you are constantly disputing every month, yes that's Naggy, and would probably annoy any issuer.

At what point does it stop being naggy on our part and just pure negligence on their part? 2 months? 3? 6?

I guess it depends but if I was an issuer, and someone complained that we hadn't updated their report in 3 months. I would view that as "wow, we clearly are not doing our job". It would be a failure on our part, and I could never blame the consumer for being angry at that point. If they complained 1 week after a statement close, different story.

but I'm big on customer service, I feel that sort of stuff has gone way downhill, and no one cares about consumers anymore.

I'll give you an example, the city towed my car about 4 years ago and were completely negligent when setting up the tow, and destroyed almost every single part on the front of me of the car. intercooler, radiator, radiator support, bumper, and more. $6,000 worth of damage. As soon as I picked it up from the tow lot, I pointed out everything they damaged. It was extremely obvious since they essentially hooked up a giant thick metal chain and the entire weight of the car was resting on the chain, so dragging a car by a metal chain with thousands of pounds pushing down on the chain, every time he accelerated the chain dug into everything, destroying plastic and metal alike.

it was incredibly obvious it was there fault. And they tried to say the car was like that when they got it. That was my only car and my only way to get to work. Which I needed my car for. How some people sleep at night is beyond me.

Yeah you gotta watch out with the disputes because I have heard a fair amount of stories of certain banks automatically closing accounts due to suspected fraud since they sometimes misclassify disputes on open accounts as disputes regarding possible identity theft/fradulently opened accounts.

I know there's a memo box and way to attach docs, but remember most of these banks offshore this type of work to India/Bangladesh/Philippines and things can get lost in translation. They may have already started using AI for this so who knows if the error rate will get better or worse.

I don't usually bother disputing them since they clear up eventually, even slow Cap One which just took 14 days after statement close to report my last one. I only disputed one which was Wells Fargo when they took three statement periods to report a zero balance

My first question would be where are you getting the Experian report? If it is direct from Experian then they only offer one report per month. Things will internally update but the report you are looking at will not change any faster than once per month. As for the slightly slower updates at Experian overall that is easy to explain. It used to be that lenders had roughly equal relationships before the Equifax breach. This meant that all the reporters would process about the same amount of records. After the breach lenders reshuffled based on how they viewed reporting. If they only wanted personal reporting they could use TransUnion(no business reports). If they wanted security and simplicity of business and personal they had to switch to Experian. Only if they were cheap and were looking for a deal would they use Equifax. This means almost all major issuers hopped on Experian and to this day there are more records in Experian than anyone else.

Yeah, Capital One is known for being slower to report compared to lenders like Amex or Discover; especially on certain cards. The 10–15 day delay you’re seeing after statement close is pretty common with them. It won’t hurt your credit in the long run, but it can be frustrating if you’re trying to get your utilization updated quickly for a big app. Sounds like your QS card’s 3–4 day reporting time is the exception rather than the rule. NFCU can be slow to post transactions, but at least their reporting speed is usually consistent.
