Calling all PNC Cash Unlimited card holders: Credit Card Funding Data Points Needed!

Hi all! I'm shopping around for flat-rate 2% cash back credit cards. The PNC Cash Unlimited caught my eye, but before I apply, I'm wanting to know if it earns cash back when used to fund new checking/savings accounts. I'm hearing some data points that past PNC cards have coded CC funding of new accounts as neither purchases nor cash advances, so no penalty but also no points... So I'm just looking to confirm what's what for this card specifically.

If you shopping for a long term general spend CC, I would recommend 3% one over 2% for obvious reasons. Get an immediate $100 SUB with referral on the Aven Rewards Visa, no purchase necessary, 3% on the first 10k per year, 2% unlimited after, no FTF, no annual fee.

Otherwise to churn. I don't think too highly of PNC in my experience. See if you can zero out the cash advance feature to ensure no cash advance fee. Can't remember if allowed when I churned their CC and checking accounts. There are sites with data points on checking accounts and how the funding with specific CC's transacted with or without cash advance.

As far as PNC and how they look at such transactions to use for their SUB, points. Don't remember trying them on a checking account initial finance. Doctor of Credit posts would be a good source for that info if performed by others.

I’m not hating, but I wouldn’t trust anything that Doctor of Credit says—he tends to believe everything he reads, especially on Reddit.

Doctor of Credit has way more expert advice than Reddit imo, it's a great space for compiling DPs and comparing notes, lotta pros on there!

Its going to depend on how the other financial institution codes the transaction. When I used it to fun another credit union, it was coded as a cash advance, causing me to get charged interest and no rewards. When my brother used his to fund a new account, it was coded as a purchase and earned his 2%. I recommend calling the institution and asking how it's coded.

Not a bad card overall in my opinion. There are better 2% cash back cards with lower redemption criteria, like NFCU and SDFCU. There are better cards with 5% cash back depending on categories.

PNC has been great to me over the years with car loan rates, but horrible with credit card APR's.

@CCprincess The only tried and true 3% card I know is AOD. (In my signature) Still going strong since April 2020.

The new Aven looks to be promising, definitely got my eye on it, just as a backup for my AOD card.

As far as 2% cards, there are many - These are the ones that personally top my list:

Wells Fargo Active Cash (with Sub and 0% promo)

Citi Double Cash (with Sub and 0% promo)

PNC Cash Unlimited (which you mentioned - No Sub - with 0% promo)

PenFed Power Cash (with Sub and 0% promo)

FNBO Evergreen (No Sub - with 0% promo)

@CCprincess hey princess ☺️ I'm not too familiar with cc funding but I also want you to know that insurance like car insurance they don't give you cashback for, not sure why but that's part of the exclusion. So that 2% cb is out, I only have the BBP and I recently got the strata so the year I will PC it to the double cash and moving forward will go on that card.

But the cash rewards when it came out I think in 2017, it only had like a $100 or $150 bonus, about a year or so they both had a bonus of $250 on the cash rewards and cash unlimited and I got approved for both and got the bonuses. I love it!

The closest to a 3% I will say is the cash unlimited if you have $100k in the preferred rewards accounts, it's like 2.625% or so.
