OnePay CashRewards Credit Card (Walmart)

OnePay (Walmart) released a new credit card with a similar structure to amazon where if you have the Walmart+ subscription you get 5% back on Walmart Purchases otherwise you get 3% and 1.5% on everything else. The bonus is only $35 for spending $75, but better then nothing.

Been waiting to see what this will look like. But I still struggle to see the real benefit to the Walmart+ membership to justify the annual fee, and then earn the full 5%.

@Vinjints For me joining Walmart + was an easy decision free delvery from the store on orders over $35.00 you pick the day and the two hour window. Otherwise Walmart delivery is 9.95 per order. The minimum of $35.00 orders shipped is waived. Walmarts prices compared to traditional grocery stores are lower. The cost is 99.00 per year. For me I pay $99.00 and I save $260.00 in delivery orders. I have had Walmart + since 2022.

I agree with @AndySoCal, Walmart+ has been an easy decision for me and P2. The $98 annual works out to right around $2 per week to be able to get local delivery once you hit $35, and we get 1-2 deliveries per week, very worth it. Sometimes P2 has a few items in the cart, then I add a few more and just send it, is great to get items as you need/want them rather than requiring big shops.

For us, Walmart+ prices on many things are significantly better than local grocery stores, to the point that factoring in a 10% tip (don't have to tip but we usually do 10%) and the cost of the subscription and the vast majority of items are still less expensive delivered to our door than they would have been if bought directly at a local grocery store.

We have found Walmart to not be great for produce, so we use grocery stores for that and a few other items, but it has been great for international foods, can get my preferred chili crisp that would otherwise require going to an Asian market. So we still go to the grocery store, but spend less time and effort when we do.

We also see some value from the Paramount+ benefit, though the gas benefit is not worth it for us as the best prices available locally are at truck stops, often 20c or more cheaper than those eligible for the 10c Walmart+ perk.

As far as the new card, I'll likely ask P2 to grab it at some point. Right now I've been using Citi SYW since Walmart+ deliveries have coded as online for nice offers (and hopefully will as retail for current offer), would struggle to hit the offers organically without our Walmart+ spend. This also means I'm not in a rush at the current moment, since the SYW retail offer is around September and October as well, but would be nice to have a more reliable / long-term solution for an area we have so much spend (last time checked around $8k/year).

Nope, Walmart + is not much of a deal for this cat ( I live close). I've found Walmart prices now higher, lower to equal in quality, than Aldi's and Costco (live even closer), so I don't shop there much anymore. Plus no HP and the paypal debit works just fine for 5% in store still for those few items I would ever go there for. BofA CCR still gets 5.25% online payment or in app. If you already do Walmart +, then maybe, it makes sense. But it is Sync, so think twice.

Awesome! Thanks DBQ. I thought it very odd that WM got rid of its 5% card when competing against Ama is so important. I'm surprised it took this long. I hate, hate, hate paying annual/subscription fees but even I looooove ordering groceries at 11:30 at night in my pajamas for delivery to my door the next day. I've actually upped my membership to the $140 one (ouch) so that I don't have to tip. I really wish I could avoid bag fees, that really bothers me. Is it worth a new card to go from 4% (Smartly) to 5%? And, as Oku said, I use the SYW card a lot to meet 'on-line' spending offers. Hmm... I'll have to think about that.

Simple to apply and approval. Approved for 10k instantly then it added it to the Walmart app as the default payment. Been using the card without even having the physical card. Interested to see how the rewards are added to the app. Also was able to change my due date by chatting on the app.

Prequal didn't work initially because Transunion was frozen. Unfroze Transunion and ran the prequal again.

It's a "weird" financial arrangement. The card is issued and approved/denied by Synchrony Bank, but you manage it through OnePay Financial, a Fintech company, that uses Coastal Community Bank for bank accounts. When you apply for the Rewards card OnePay immediately pushes you to get their OnePay Debit card and their crappy savings account that you need a $500/mo. Direct Deposit to get any interest on it.

.One of the early comments warns folks who are "leery" of Synchony; Synchrony has always loved me. I have a Lowes card w/$15k CL, PayPay MC w/$12k CL, and a Google Store account with $6K CL, where I got 36 months 0% for my Pixel 9 phone. I was approved for the Walmart OnePay Rewards card w/$8k CL; the hard pull is on TU by Sync.

I live on a rural property east of Tucson, and the town where i grocery shop, Benson, only has a Walmart and a Safeway, and I hate those grocery stores chains that make you join their club card, scour the weekly ad, and clip the deal to get that price. Gimme Walmart, where the price you see is the price you pay. So I have Walmart+, I'm too rural for free store delivery, but I love the store pickup & free shipping, and other benies like free Paramount Plus. Good luck!

Just to make clear. You don't need Walmart + for free store pickup or free shipping (with minimum purchase).

The only negative I see here is they aren't allowing authorized users, at least for now. Just applied now and was approved with a $7k credit line.

Edit: also, there probably will be better a sub during the holidays.

Are you sure? I'm not so sure you can get free delivery without W+. Delivery to your door, from the store, as in groceries. Shipping of mail-able items from walmart.com, yes. I've never used the store pickup.

Seriously? No AU? I've never seen this before for a 'regular' credit card. My upgrade and Elvis' Aven, yeah, no AUs.

Their old credit card issued by Capital one had no SUB so its better then before. Although, I would agree $35 for a hard pull is pretty weak.
