The end of AMC credit Card

Just got an email notifying that the AMC credit card is over..

As you may have heard, the AMC Entertainment Visa credit card is regrettably coming to an end because our card issuer was just recently acquired. As a result of that ownership transition, they informed us that they are no longer able to continue our co-branded credit card program.

That was a short lived card.

Guess I'm glad I never pulled the trigger to get it.

Honestly not a surprise to me. These type of cards don't typically last long especially on such a niche type of card in my honest opinion.

In this particular case the fintech fronting the card (Deserve - Celtic Bank was the actual backend issuer) was acquired by Intuit earlier this year. The Deserve-branded cards are also going/gone, and the AMC portfolio must have been too small to be worth anyone else taking over. Can only speculate on how the acquisition will be assimilated into the Credit Karma portfolio.

I never heard of Deserve or Celtic Bank before. I went to a movie at amc recently, reminded me I don't like them. If there's a Marcus cinema near you, try them, much nicer.

Celtic Bank is mostly known for playing in the subprime CC arena along with the likes of Credit One and Merrick, Deserve was one of the fintech startups much like Cardless whose business model was tied to marketing/managing co-branded cards by partnering with a bank who serves as the actual issuer.
