I really don't think anything Capital One offers would be worth putting up with a bucketed annual fee card for 10 years. But cool nonetheless. Grats.

Escaping the bucket was always possible with Capital One. The main issue is if you interest Capital One enough to move you around or tolerate adjustment of their security packaging. The main thing is are you going to fight for your original account or get a new account with a new rating. Getting new product is the fastest way around the bucket because you get rebucketed when you qualify for a new account.

It started out as a $300 secured platinum!

You're not alone... I held on to an old HSBC/Orchard Bank card for way too long after it became a QuicksilverOne with a $79 (!!!) annual fee. I always called to see about getting a PC, and was told 'no offer available' several years in a row with mixed luck on getting a partial credit for the fee.

Then one day it finally happened.

Today that card is an 18-year-old grandfathered/no AF Savor card. It's still in the bucket - no CLIs are ever available, and the CLI screens are even different from my non-bucketed card - but I've reallocated credit from a non-bucketed card to make the credit limit $6500 (more than enough) and while not really important the variable APR is a decent 19.15% as of today.

While I could have saved a little $$$ in annual fees by canceling early-on I'm quite happy with where it's ended up.

And I get some grab and go for the plane as well. I would say I am getting at least $40ish in value per visit. At this point I've visited DFW Cap1 1x, DEN Cap1 2x, IAD Cap1 1x, LAS Cap1 1x, and DCA Cap1 Landing 1x.... So $40 x 6. I need about 16 more visits LOL. I did use the Global Entry so $120. I paid the annual fee for 21 years...sheesh...$39 ~ $819...

$819 - $120 - $240 = $459. I need about 12 more visits. Ohhh I took a guest (or 2) with me 3 of those visits (one of those being 2 guests). So $459 -$160 more takes me down to $300 left to reclaim from Cap1. That would be 8 more lounge visits (less if bringing a guest). I will get my money back!!

Ohhh....I have an October trip going to Houston. It has a layover in DFW on the way there and a layover in DEN on the way back!! 2 more visits will be knocked out.
