Which banks allow U to move ur CL's between cards?

Which banks ALLOW (or have a policy of letting you) move some of your credit limit from one credit card over to another card in that same eco system?

Amex, Chase, and Barclays have allowed me to reallocate my credit limits. I've seen reports of Capital One and Wells Fargo allowing this as well, but I have not tried it myself.

Edit to add: Citi stopped doing reallocations several years ago. They used to allow some reallocation if you were closing an account, but that's no longer allowed.

2 weeks ago I moved CL between my 2 Cap One CCs.

Savor to Quicksilver, to be specific.

I've done this twice. Once QS to S, this time from S to QS.

When I've done this my credit scores have lost points, so I only do this when it is important to me. Both times it was 23 points, but the points did recover shortly, within weeks.

So it isn't really important, I just dislike seeing the drop, lol.

I've had experience with Navy Federal, Amex and Cap One all making it very easy to move my CL between cards.

American Express, Chase, Capital One, and BarclayUS have already been (correctly) mentioned above, Bank of America also allows it. Note that if the CL transfer is being done as a prelude to closing out the donor card expect that each of them will likely require you to leave a stub limit behind on that donor card, usually either $500 or $1000.

NFCU does consider allowing it on a case-by-case basis and sometimes will do so if it's needed to facilitate an inbound balance transfer.

@1lifeisworthit The temporary drop is likely due to a situation where the donor card reports the lower credit line, but the reciepient card doesn't close the next statement for 2-3weeks, so you see the drop in available credit and it crosses some scoring theshold before the recipient card reports again.

Does anyone have any data points for smaller more obscure Banks or Credit Unions that will allow you to move credit limits between 2 or more credit cards?

Right. I figured the drops were related to reporting in some way.

I'm not upset by it, and it is what it is.

Doesn't mean I like seeing the drops... hahaha.

I assume that you have to wait for at least a year (with a brand new credit card account) before the bank would allow you move credit card limits around?

I will note that with Capital One the ability to move credit lines is an "offer" that you may or may not ever get, and, as usual, the CSRs have no control over. It's all their esoteric computer system.

I've been wanting to move some credit to my Savor for like 8 months and have never been given the chance.

With Chase and Amex, on the other hand, you're pretty much free to move things as you like, when you like.

I was able to move Personal to Business with Amex, but not the other direction.

Hi, were you able to do this yourself through online banking? Or did it involve a phone call to an agent. I can't seem to find any areas in the app that allow me to share/allocate credit lines. Thanks for your help.

If your question is in reference to my post about Amex, I was able to reallocate myself via online banking. I believe the feature was located under"Account Services". I only have one Amex revolver now, so the limit reallocation ability is not visible to me at the moment. Perhaps someone else with 2 or more Amex revolvers can confirm the exact steps for you.

With Cap One, it is not an "offer"

It's one of the options that come up when I click on the "I Want To" button. I click "I Want To" and a pop-up appears. Transfering a credit line to that account is toward the bottom of the pop-up.

I can do it any time I want to.

@1lifeisworthit It's the same for me, but it's not available to everyone. I don't really know how they determine which customers and cards they allow, but it doesn't appear to be tied to whether a card is low bucketed or not.

So telling people it's an offer doesn't tell them to click that "I Want To" button...

Which would sort out a lot of problems.

Because it isn't an offer that's gonna come in their social medias. It's going to be in the "I Want To" button's pop-up.
