GBank credit card

I was recently approved for a GBank credit card, but only two days later GBank emailed cardholders saying that all transactions are now restricted to only two merchant categories:

• MCC 7801 – Online Casino

• MCC 7802 – Horse and Dog Racing

All other transactions—including regular purchases, cash advances, point-of-sale transactions, and ATM withdrawals—are temporarily suspended.

GBank calls this a temporary measure related to “internal operational measures and system and process updates,” but they haven’t provided any explanation or timeline. When I’ve called, customer service can’t tell me why this happened or when full functionality will return.

This seems extremely unusual for a credit card, so I’m trying to find out if others are experiencing the same thing.

Has anyone else with a GBank credit card received this notice or had their card restricted to these two MCCs?

I would think the opposite wherein those two are the restricted MCC.

Well, this is what they are advertising, so it looks like they are trying to promote gamblers using the card. Very strange.

DH has this card nothing special but no mention of this at all .

I've had the card for about 4 months now and I just had a transaction declined. I called and they told me what they told you. I laughed and said thanks. They told me to try and use the card every once and awhile and they'll eventually have the situation fixed.

I don't think I can say that anymore. Not until there is another Gambling-Only card under the sun. Until then? This is definitely new.

I'm not familiar with GBank, but that does sound sketchy. Most places prohibit those expenses. You should call and get more info.

So, they pay 1% on gaming, ~~2% on everything else,~~ roflol. Even my old sad sack 1.5% quicksilver beats that. Is there any rewards card that pays less than 1% ? I can get 3% on gaming with aven, 2% with wf active cash.

I've had a gbank card for about 6 months now. Paid if off last month and when I tried to use it on Play+ for a sportsbook, I keep getting a technical error. I called Gbank and they said its an internal policy which made no sense. I am however able to use it for non sports/casino purchases.

Several years ago, some time before MoviePass went out of business, users started experiencing a lot of these same kinds of issues.

Hey, i am in the same pickle as you. I got approved for the card about 2-3 months ago. 10k limit. At first after i got the actual phyiscal card only then was i able to make purchases on basically anything. At first, all of the gambling sites and the typical US sports betting apps (Fanduel, Draftkings, Fliff, prizepicks, etc.) They all were approved. Even fast food spots or grocery stores.

Then just like you i recieved the same email and the only way i can contact them is via phone. Because eveverytime i just try to ask a basic question, they always tell me to call them. (Unlike my discover card where i can usually just send them a message via my inbox and get a response.) This company is shady AF and its always the same couple of phone operators that answer and are like on the spectrum.

Have you found any MCC 7801/7802 websites or physical places that have worked so far?

Haven't tried yet. When I was applying for the card, they told me that even what would ordinarily be deemed a cash advance at a casino cashier would be classified a a purchase, meaning no fee, no immediate interest, and 1% cash back. But not sure if that was good info (sounds too good to be true) and/or whether current restrictions prohibit. Gonna try in Vegas soon.

Oh, i see. Actually i think this card is actually mainly for people that go to casino's in Vegas. I live in CA, so not too many casinos around here. The call center person even told me that most people use the card inside casinos in Vegas, so you may be right...
