Origins Lab card - 6% back on everything

Hey… have you heard about this card? I just came across it on Facebook and am wildly curious. It's 5am PST right now and I'm going back to bed for a bit, but woke up, saw this, and wasted time reseaching it. Here is what they're claiming:

It’s called the Origins Card, and apparently it’s a debit card that gives 6% back on everything. [I thought it was a credit card when I started writing this post, but now realize it's only a debit card... anyhow...). The deal with it, and why it's 6% on everything:

No fees.
No rotating categories.
No points that expire.

You just use it like normal — groceries, coffee, travel — and instead of cashback that slowly loses value, you earn a share that’s supposed to grow over time as the AI economy grows.

They’re saying it’s built differently than normal cards — not funded by bank gimmicks, but by a shared treasury tied to AI growth. The idea is everyday people actually get a piece of what’s coming… instead of getting priced out later.

Sounds interesting... but, it's a debit card. Ugh.

Also sounds almost too good? Is this a fly-by-night company or one trying to get venture capital and thus using gimmicks to get #s in their portfolio?

What do you think — bad idea… or...?

For anyone, 6% back is an Amazing rate

even as a debit card (good) - but one has to "Contribute" to their AI learning model (could be the bad).

I've seen these ads too but there's not much info and it seems pretty sketch.

We all just saw U.S. Bank's Smartly crash and burn in 6 months @ 4%, no chance this thing lives long without some massive catch.

We know 6% AINT sustainable. The treasury deposit thing is shaky or shady.

I leapt onto the Smartly on Day 1 and still have the T&C of ver 1.0. Let's see if anyone can get a true 6% cash back card.

I don't know about that. I'm with @unsungivy though, it's only a waitlist atm. My last experience with a cash back debit was miserable with PP.

Ya don't see this working long term would love to see their long term business model how this is profitable. Training models or similar i don't buy that. With that said i did put name on list as curious where this will go but somehow I see someone holding the empty bag at the end unless this is FDIC insured this is going to end badly I foresee.

Not anywhere near sustainable, as products with half as much back have failed many times prior. It's just a matter of time, and based on how things look that timeline here will be relatively small.

^^ What does any of that actually mean?

When they say what they contribute to the Treasury with each of your purchases, they call it 'small contribution'. They don't say 6%. This makes me think they contribute 1 - 2% (or whatever it might be) and the rest is anticipated Treasury appreciation. If they are only investing 1 - 2%, we can all do this ourselves - take our 3 - 5% CB from other cards and invest it in AI ETFs, Mutual Funds, and/or stocks.

How and when do you actually receive your 6% cash back????

I have a ton of other questions!

Kinda had the same thought on the Gemini card. Sounds good, but why couldn't I just buy the crypto with regular cash back alternatives?

I don't think it will necessarily get nerfed quickly - I just think it won't be what everyone thinks it's going to be - from the start.

Yes, we know the traditional business models of bank cards finds it difficult to sustain 3% (AOD FCU, US Alliance) or 4% (US Bank Smartly.) But this isn't the same business model. Actually, this looks unlike anything I think I've ever seen. You know that the big banks use our purchase data already, but we agree to give it to them as part of the benefit of holding credit cards. From the "Treasury Flywheel" diagram, it appears that by the cardholders agreeing to contribute to AI data sets, Origins Labs can sell the data, invest in growing AI companies, and pass some of the revenues back to cardholders for their time and inputs. Could this be online shopping perhaps, or completing some short tasks, or answering questions about your purchase history to earn the rewards?? While it's not as simple as swiping a credit card, i think that is where the extra rewards could be feasible. But you're trading your personally identifiable inputs /data along with some time, so the extra rewards aren't without strings. It could also be like a "side gig" but just not as an actual employee of the company.
