AMEX Platinum Bonus Offer up to 175k criteria

Sorry if i missed this in a previous post, but does anyone have any data points as to the amount of bonus points AMEX is giving for the 'up to 175k'

Does it show you in the pre-qual? or do you have to actually fully apply?

I have Sapphire Reserve and was thinking of dropping that down to Preffered and grab the AMEX Platinum, but if the bonus is super low, not sure it's worth it or not. Just curious if theren't any way to get a ballpark of what it might be based on credit score, balance to limit, etc. anything really.

so what happens is:

you apply

amex does a soft pull of your credit and decides if they can approve you and what bonus they will like to give. this can be as low as 50k and as high as 175k for platinum (or no bonus at all "pop-up jail")

amex lets you know and gives you the option to accept or decline the offer

if you accept, you get HP(s) and the new account at the stated bonus amount, if you decline, nothing happens and there's no credit impact

presumably they are using a profitability model as part of their assessment for the bonus amount, but as for what that model contains or uses, I would have to imagine it's literally everything they know about you: location, credit report, income, device/browser you're applying from, payment history etc.

Amex has changed their terms so that if you get the bonus on the plat card you won't be able to get the bonus on a lower level card later, but you can get the bonus on the gold card now and then get the plat bonus later. Just something to be aware of because it never used to be this way until more recently.
