When I started to rebuild my credit I got then maybe 5 years ago. So I would be in their lowest rated bucket and would not be able to leave that dam bucket. They are now my lowest credit limit.

Next year after I buy my first home, Im considering cancelling them and reapplying so I'm in a bigger bucket. Having a 300 limit when the rest of my cards are 2k plus us annoying and must not look good to lenders.

Is it a good idea?

Is your Capital One your oldest CC? If so, I wouldn't cancel it. Feed some spend into it for 3-4 cycles and then apply for a CLI. You don't need to carry balances just show Capital One that you're using the card.

There is zero downside to canceling a $300 starter card, even if it is your oldest. It will still benefit your age metric for another 10+ years. By then you'll have moved on to bigger and better cards. If you don't use it, might as well cancel.

The card is likely bucketed and won't grow much. It is possible however that you could get small CLIs going forward, also in many cases Cap1 will allow you to move your CL over to another card so if you plan to open one in the future I'd keep it open and hit them up for CLIs, assuming that the card doensn't have an AF.

You are not bucketed; it's the cards that are bucketed. You don't need to close the cards to get out of the bucket. But as others have said, there's no big harm in closing them either

I had the card moved to a venture from Quicksilver. I asked for a cli it went from 300 to 400 which is kinda insulting to be honest

Seriously, don't take it personally. Too many people here obsess over their bucketed Capital One cards and it's just a waste of time and emotional energy. It's just the way that company does business. Close the card, don't close it, the company doesn't care. So you're better off focusing your efforts elsewhere, without the emotion of getting insulted attached to it.

I think Capone has a limit on how many cards you can have, so that might be a reason to close one.

My experience is I got qs, no sub, at $2000. Is that a bucket? I later pced to savior, I've had the account 3 years now, it's at $4200, mostly $400 at a time. I generally put $200-300 on it, then pif. It seems to me that they may just limit clis based on my use.

The big question for me, is there a Capone card you really want? I kind of like capone, they sometimes have special deals I like and I keep money in their savings account. Still, I closed the checking they bribed me $350 to open.

I now have both savior and commerce special connections visa that pay 3% for dining. I'm about to pc my us bank shoppers visa for their altitude go visa which pays 4X for dining. I've also got the aven 3% on everything. I'm overstocked with 3% on dining, thinking to dump one. I don't see any other Capone card I want. Might dump the commerce card as well, but they cough up a $2000 Auto cli every 6 months, regardless of use.

@FicoMike0 I think Altitude Go is only really worth 4% if you're going to a USB account and only 75% of that if you're statement crediting now?
