Hey friends. So I haven't posted in a bit but I just got off the phone with Discover and got some sad but not surprising news. They told me they're no longer permanently reducing APR and they had no low/no interest promotions for me.

A little back story. Like many on here Discover was my favorite quirky card. The US customer service, at times generous CLI's, and interest reductions/0% promos made them a standout. About 10 years ago the good folks here taught me I can effectively get a 1 year 0% interest promo every 18 months from Discover so long as I was in good standing with them. And it worked like clockwork for nearly 10 years. As many of you know, you just call up and ask, they give, it ends, you wait 6 months and call back and ask again and they give again lol. Well, that was until Capital One took Disco over. So my last 0% promo ended last August 2025. So since it's been 6 months I called this week and asked for another 0% interest for 1 year. I was told there were no promotions to offer. I then asked for a permanent interest rate reduction but I was told they weren't processing interest reduction requests anymore--period. I asked for clarification if this was just for me or in general and the CSR said in general for everyone. I pressed the issue again as it seemed impossible, she put me on hold to speak with a supervisor, came back and reaffirmed they weren't reducing interest rates anymore. I somewhat expected this as CapOne completed the takeover during my last promo but I was still holding out hope.

Was the CSR I spoke to correct? Is it all over? Or have some of you still been able to get permanent APR reductions or promos recently post-CapOne takeover?

Thanks!!

Capital One doesn't give permanent APR reductions in general and they're aligning Discover under the same policy. Unfortunately, it's true, and others have reported being told the same.

I'll give you some even worse news - they raised my APR when they moved one of my cards to Capital One.
