Citi Double Cash Product Change to Custom Cash

Approved for the Citi Double Cash - March 12th

Ended up getting the card about ~March 22nd

Earned the SUB which posted directly after the first statement and Citi deposited the money from my points redemption in 1, maybe 2 days. - April 3rd

Product changed to the custom cash - April 4th

even the citi tracker is confused

Thanks for the DP. With the SoFi card going to 2.2% cashback, my one remaining use case for keeping the Double Cash (combine with Rewards+ for 2.22%) has become moot. PC to Custom Cash it is!

I'm confused. You got the DC intro bonus and then you also got the CC intro bonus after PCing? Or are you just showing that citi is showing your earned DC intro bonus as earned under your CC?

I think what's going on is, every card that has a "bonus" graphic shows the progress of said bonus.

That graphic for the Double Cash card was 100% filled, as in "you got the bonus, congrats".

So when the card was PC'd to the Custom Cash card, the graphic switched to the one for the Custom Cash card,and still showing as a completed bonus, but just the wrong bonus. A graphical error.

Also, you don't have to do a PC to get a graphical error from them.

Last week I logged into my Citi app and halfway down the page of my Custom Cash account, it said congrats on hitting 100,000 Thank You Points.

I couldn't swipe fast enough to my rewards page to see how I somehow earned so many extra points.

NOPE!

In fact the graphic is still saying that.

Nice that they are allowing direct product change again. When I did it a year or two ago I was forced to PC double cash to diamond preferred first, wait a few months, and then PC that to custom cash.

In my opinion, clawbacks are unjustifiably feared too much. A cc issuer puts out a welcome offer with certain conditions (usually spend $X in n months), the applicant applies for the card, the applicant meets said conditions, cc issuer awards applicant the bonus, done. Offer made, offer accepted, conditions met. Done deal.

Does the conversion still work in 2025?

I'm considering applying for DC card and then converting it to custom cash so that I can have 2 of them. I converted one last year.

If I remember correctly, there was a holding period after you get a new card before you can ask to convert it to another card.

It hasn't been quite a year, but I was able to do a PC from DC to Custom Cash yesteryday using the Citibank website's chat tool. It took about 6 minutes and was relatively painless.

I did need to get past their AI chat bot at the beginning. It did a core dump when as said I wanted to do a product change, and then it let me select "customer service representative" to get actual support.

Unrelated - but does anyone here know what "Chase jail" is? Someting to do with the number of cards you have, I think. I saw it on another forum and the OP hasn't answered my question about it.

I'd advise others to be wary of changing a product this quick, in the event of clawback / account closure. But you may know something I don't.

It isn't that big a deal since this was a lateral move without any complications regarding different annual fees or changes in the type of rewards. In these types of senarios some issuers will consider authorizing a product change if the card has been held for less than a year when its tied to an assertion that after some use the cardholder thinks the other card is a better fit. (been there, done that, request was approved)
