NFCU Flagship/MR Amex New Rewards Program

I was perusing Reddit, and I came across a post stating that the rewards program for the Flagship Visa and More Rewards Amex has been updated... basically, there's no longer a $50 minimum for cash redemptions.

Users are also reporting that points from the Flagship and MR Amex are/can be combined for redemptions. I can't confirm this (I don't have the Amex) but if accurate this is notable as well.

While not a show-stopper, the $50 min for cash redemptions was a friction point for me; the work-around was to redeem for gift cards, which while workable wasn't ideal.

I currently have the Platinum MC, Cash Rewards Visa, and Flagship Visa. I'm fairly maximized with other lenders, but I might consider changing my Cash Rewards to the Amex now. Previously I didn't consider this since I didn't want small buckets of points stranded across multiple cards, but it looks like that's no longer an issue.

For those who are all-in with NFCU, the Flagship and MR Amex combo is quite powerful, giving 3% back on travel, grocery, gas/transit, and restaurants, with a 2% fall-back on everything else (using the Flagship).

Confirmed. I just cashed in 4517 points worth $45.17 toward my More Rewards card balance. I don't have a Flagship Visa so I don't know about the pooling of points between cards, but I'd venture to say the folks over on Reddit are most likely correct. This make NFCU a lot more appealing.

I have both the More Rewards and the Flagship I have redeemed $58.21 which was the combined number of points of the 2 cards.

I noticed redemptions begin at $5 now for both cards.

This is new and exciting. I got an email a week ago with scant info. This might make me look more favorbaly on the MR as a backup/SUB option. Has anyone recieved any other official publication yet?

Thanks and nice find. I just redeemed only $4ish dollars as really only use flagship for prime AF and a tiny less than 5 dollars a month reoccuring MAX subscription.

Nice! Not that I use the Flagship for anything other than prime. But nice! $50 min redemption sux! I do think I have a little bit of orphaned CB I can hopefully scoop up (once it reaches $5? lol).

Now if NFCU could just 'gulp' make it so that you can actually auto pay your credit card bill via external account! The audacity of me to ask! A ludicrous concept, I know!

I'm not sure where the $5 minimum redemption information came from but I can assure you, I was able to grab my last $4.54 today!

I keep clicking on rewards in the app for my MR Amex card and it just says, "Access to this feature is currently unavailable."

So, yesterday, after reading this post (and never getting the email), I kept trying to redeem my rewards, and wasn't able to, constantly getting an error message that said, "Access to this feature is currently unavailable."

Well, I tried just now and got a notice that my app was outdated and needed to be updated. I updated the Navy Fed app and...boom. Converted my cash no problem.

I like this... I'll use my MR more now. And, well, seriously consider the Flagship as well.

Ah, an outdated app will do weird stuff... welcome to the club; I'm glad you got it sorted!

I'm almost certainly going to have my Cash Rewards changed to the MR Amex when I get around to calling. As it is now, the Cash Rewards has a permanent spot in my sock drawer so there's certainly nothing to lose even if a prospective MR Amex won't be top-of-wallet.

If you have Amazon Prime the Flagship really is a no-brainer, even if you have other (or even better) travel cards. There's also TSA PreCheck reimbursement with the Flagship as well (likely redundant for folks with many cards, but still possibly useful).

I would definitely use my Flagship if I got the spending offers that I see you guys post from time to time. In 1.5 years, not one spending offer (other than the initial intro offer).

Yeah, I never get the spending offers either, and I have a near-perfect FICO plus an $80k CL on that Flagship. You’d think they’d want to put me into some debt, or maybe they know they’d lose money offering me those things.

I can only hope one day. Do the offers only show up in the app or also on the website? I’m not really an app person and mostly just use online banking with NFCU or any institution for that matter, unless I’m using Apple Pay or Zelle to move money from one bank to Schwab for no-ATM-fee withdrawals while on the road.

I just can’t get into the app craze like others. I’m old school and use my tiny MacBook Air for banking.

This is what it shows me when I log in. I just cashed out to zero earlier today so I can't know for sure if it really does require 500 points.

CC, this is what you'll see from the main website (using a PC) from your credit card page.

Click View Rewards Activity & Offers and then another browser tab will open up.

Step One: Click "My Offers". It will take you to another page.

Step Two: Read to yourself "You currently have no available offers. Check back later for new opportunities.".

Step Three: Leave defeated.

Yep we are on same page then.. Card is worth itself in Amazon prime alone as we both know but if it had offers for us obviously we would both use them. I don't know how they decide who gets them. I for a few years had 0% bt offer and 0% apr then those went away as well even the .99 or 1.99 went away that some are offered now. Something I am clearly doing wrong as mentioned they know they aren't making $ off me on CC, but last few auto loans for considerable amounts have been through them so they are getting some $ on that end of things.

Just a heads-up, I pulled the trigger on the product change (sent secure message yesterday), and I just got a response from NFCU that credit card product changes are currently on a freeze and won't be offered again until sometime in September, with no set date for when they'll resume.

I suspect this may have something to do with the rewards update (???) but in any case it's not the end of the world. I mainly just wanted to have a reason to show my NFCU cards a little more love, but now I guess I have something to look forward to in the fall. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe worth a call and see if HUCA type thing can get it done? Hard to believe redemption changes would cause a halt to PC. I can't imagine why the would implement this personally as NFCU has always been good with PC in the past.
