I paid a bill last night with my Cash+ and got a text from real-time rewards offering for me to use $14.94 in rewards for a $14.94 credit. I accepted. Well this morning, I notice that they only gave me $11.21.

I seem to remember them talking about devaluing rewards other than those deposited into a checking account but they should at least have the right dollar amount on the text message.

It's not worth calling and fighting with them so I just turned off RTR on both my cards. Thought I would warn others though. If you want that 1cpp, you should turn off the RTR service so that you don't get bamboozled like I did.

Yes, they are being deceptive. Thank you for reminding us that it's possible to turn off RTR. I just did so.

I'm not defending US Bank/Elan here, but if you look closely at their text message, it doesn't have any dollar signs. Here is one of mine:

"Real-Time Rewards: You have 17.63 rewards. Text REDEEM to use 17.63 rewards for your purchase. Text HELP for help or STOP to opt-out. Msg&DataRatesMayApply"

I also assumed it meant I would get $17.63

in rewards. Nope! I only got 75% of that. I dimly recall some discussion of this a few months ago, but I didn't really remember the details.

Shame on US Bank. This is the wrong way to treat their customers. If they weren't being intentionally deceptive, they would put the actual rewards amount in the text message, expressed in US Dollars.

Never use RTR to pay for something, unless being giving an additional SUB for doing so. Why would you? All your doing is not getting rewards for that amount of RTR you use to make a purchase.
