HSBC AF Removed?

Has anyone have any luck having their AF removed from HSBC. I just went thru a nightmare with them and even though I cancel the card they won't remove it until I paid in full.

I'm going to transfer the balance to another card and cancel it and will never do business with them. I have had the card for two years and always paid in time and kept about a 10% balance with them. They never gave me a line increase in those two years either.

Are you talking about having an AF removed after you closed the card? That is a totally different matter than having the AF removed from an open, active account, which I have done. You need to be clearer about what you're stating/asking.

I first called them to see if they can wave the AF and they refused so I canceled the card at that point. I couple of days i logged in online and I saw that the AF was not removed so I called them again to see why they hadn't remove the AF since I had already cancel the card and they told me that they will remove it when I paid the card in full and I only have until the November 16.

You have to be very careful when you close a card with a balance. All kinds of things can happen. I would try calling during US business hours and ask for a supervisor. You may be stuck.

Of course you could always file a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency if that doesn't work out:

I have a Best Buy card with them and they always remove the AF, I have to call and ask, and once or twice I've had to threaten to close the account, but they've always removed it.

Problem is OP has lost whatever meager leverage he had - he closed the card.

I was able to have the AF on my Direct Merchants Bank (HSBC) MC permanently waived. That was not easy to do. Best approach: When the frontline CSR says "No" to a waiver request ask to speak to a retention specialist. Then state your case to the retention specialist and never even obliquely mention closing your account. If you've been around for a while and have kept your nose clean they might just do it for you!

I wonder how much on an impact this will make on my credit report. Would it make my score go down?

It could if you carry balances.
