I know several people who work at bank branches, and they all have upsale contests when new things come out. Of course they are going to try to get you to opt-in to the new debit card, or even to apply for a credit card when you decide not to opt-in. They get paid extra for this stuff.

It would not affect me since I always PIF anyway. Besides, 10.24% is not a bad APR. I do not think you will get much lower than that with the current economic climate.

if your fico is that high it shouldn't matter what your interest is becuase you should be paying in full every month, anyhow. But, you can probably negotiate a lower rate. I have a chase freedom card and I got them to lower mine to 6.24%v and my FICO is only 703

Nonsense asking for a lower interest rate will have no effect your credit at all. By getting a lower interest rate you can pay the card off quicker, and infact the lender will often run a promotion. My Citi Diamond card I have had since 2005 has an interest rate of 6.75, my Citi Professional is 7.8, and my business card is at 8.99 because I asked for a lower rate. Prior to asking it was at 11%-15%. Chase like many lenders will offer better interest rates you need to just ask when you call them.

Take Care.

I had good luck with Chase up until about a year ago. I had APR lowered several times, and on my miles card they would not waive the AF because it was mandated by United, but they credited me 6,000 miles; however, the last person I spoke with at Chase told me they are no longer doing any kind of modifications at customers' request. He told me that they would still review and adjust things as needed, but that's it. I asked him what the prognosis looked like and he said to try back in a year or so and they might be able to do that stuff again. I did try to get my ratejacked card lowered before I just paid it off, but I think they are more interested in ratejacking right now, and as much as that has been going on I'm not really willing to poke that bear again right now.

10.24% is actually quite low for Chase these days. Many have much higher rates even with long histories and perfect accounts. Mine is 29.99%, although it is a former WAMU account.

Very few banks are offering below 10% these days. PenFed doesn't offer lower than 12.5%. Many other CU's are at 9.9% and higher. So IMO you have a reasonable rate and are not likely to get anything lower from that CCC.
