My dream of getting an AMEX card.

I recently applied for an AMEX Delta, and Star-something cards and was denied. They pulled Experian, which lists 4 derogs and a judgment from many years ago. Experian FICO is 620. While others seem to get the approval for a Delta card with numbers similar to mine, I experience no such luck. One day I will be able to have a shiny AMEX card in my wallet, but that day isn't now. I was thinking about trying RECON with them, but they listed 4 or so reasons in their online letter, so I don't think it will work. Has anyone out there had success with a RECON of AMEX? If so, what address did you mail the letter to?

I was just denied an AMEX Blue because of a recent collection (for $58). The collection is being removed so I called to ask where I could send a recon letter to.

I was given a fax number to show my recent removal and score increase. 801-945-2884

I think you should send a recon letter. With your baddies, there is a good chance they will not approve you (sorry to say). However, it is definitely worth the price of a stamp for the chance that it will add a positive TL to your CR.

I would write a recon letter and address each one of the 4 "reasons" for non-approval. Then I would send out as many GW letters as you can to get them removed. Keep sending!

Gosh!

I'm so scared of appying for that card. I really want one, ANY Amex card would do! I want to wait until my scores get higher though!

with amex... call the number on the letter and just say you would like a 2nd review... you will hear from them within 2 weeks with either another letter or a card.

stpn2me, you should go on "whogavemecredit.com" to get some idea of approvals with those scores. Of course, you'd have to keep in mind credit situations differ for those approved. It might help you work up the nerve!

No,

no derogs or bankrupcy...one 60 day late LAST Nov. on a Student loan, but everything has been current since. Util is down to 1-5% and just paid off a consumer loan...I will try in Dec..thanks for the help...

I would GW the late, and recon in Dec. try to give it 30 days- for some reason Amex loves the "30 day decision rule" don't ask me why.

I can understand wanting the prestige of an AmEx card but they're really just that...an image. Many other major cards out there are much better for everyday use...accepted more places, better rates, easier to work with, etc. I can't stand AmEx and will never own another one.

Aloha all... Hi there! It's also my "dream" to obtain a AMEX card. I don't really have the bestest score. Here it is... Transunion - 661 Equifax - 618 Experian - 692 These were all updated as of November 6, 2007. I had a few missed payments so I don't really have a good score. Should I wait a bit for it to increase? What's up with amex charge card vs. amex credit cards? Look forward for some feedback and advice. Mahalos! Tony

amex pulls ex and i got a delta at a lot lower score. however, they are not baddie/bk friendly. if your ex is clean, try a delta and ask for a product change to a blue.

credit card revolves a balance

charge card is pay in full every month

Hm. Yeah, I tried applying before with American Express and I got denied. I don't remember which credit bureau but my score was pretty low back then. I don't have any BK on my profile...but I missed payments. As for charge card vs. credit card...I meant, if it matters which one is easier to obtain? Thanks for the help...

oh, sorry. a ton of us seem to get the delta, another seems to be the starwood (delta seems to be most plentiful). as for charge cards, i THINK the green is the entry one (experts will chime in soon).

Is the charge card an easier approval? Does it convert over?

I would love to get a foot in the door with AMEX. I recon'd this denial, so we will see what happens. I have a couple baddies all from 2002 and scheduled to come off in 2009. Hopefully they will take this into account.

Hm. I'm just so tempted to do it right now and apply. hahah. Don't want to jump the gun though. Maybe I should hold off and improve my score now... Right now...I have 2 credit cards, 1 store card, line of credit loan, and a car loan.

For who have score 600 up . easy to get it . after have the card by mail call number back of the card . don't activated . just ask for convert to blue cash . 2" done . wait for new blue card come . and 30day more , ask for cl up . good luck .
