USAA Secured Credit Card

I have read that Usaa offers secure credit cards, WILL Someone that actually has a card, please let me know if a credit check was performed and what bureaus they report. Looking to close on VA loan in 9wks

I wouldn't apply for any CCs prior to closing. At least check with your lender first.

Just spoke USAA, they will review your account prior to mailing an application and if you must to get an application. It will take 5-7 days to receive. Once you receive, its 3 pgs you must complete and mail back. The process is about 3 weeks. They did not pull my credit

According to the representative I just spoke to, the Secured card was just a test to certain people with USAA, they don't actually offer this card.

Is USAA BK friendly? what is min. score needed? who do they pull?

This is a pilot program, and they have sent me and my husband out applications which will actually take up to 12 business days to arrive. I still ahve yet to receive ours but its supposed to be here any day they say.

Its only for full USAA members, and they review your account before they send out the applications. It will unsecure after a year, and minimum i believe is 300, max is 1500. Whatever you put on the card you are stuck with for the first 6 months, and you can add one time to the security deposit after the 6 months.

I do not know if they pull credit, but they report to all 3.

Credit Addict-

I just got a USAA MC in Jan and I have a BK 2004. I only got $2000 but the APR is lower than some of my other cards and I was stoked to get the card as I had tried before in Feb 2008 and was declined bc of BK...Now when they did the pull (which was EQ 4 me) I asked about the Amex. It's standards must be a little higher b/c I didn't get approved for it but they told me to call back and try in 6 months once I've had my other card for while and established some history.

Greetings everyone.... This definitely caught my eye and I hit my USAA Speed dial, lol... A couple of additional notes if I may. The minimum amount is only $250, and it is deposited into a 2yr fixed CD with a rate of 2.13%.

The program is brand new and still in the pilot phase.

It has a $35 annual fee, 18.9% Int, and has a chance to graduate into an unsecured card at 12mths.

LOL it is funny how people are getting a lot of conflicting info on this, but to be fair I thinkthe program is being handled by a different branch of the credit card division so there is not much info floating around. Msot of the time when you call the CSRs have never even heard of it and tell you there is no such thing. Eventually we will all have our apps in hand and have more concrete information.

Good morning, everyone, I think we are getting the secured credit card confused with the non-secured credit card.. Bamagirl1, did you apply for the secure or non-secure card. I spoke with USAA representative Melanie, and per my conversation with her, the credit card dept do not handle the secure credit card because it is a pilot program. However, the manager that is over the secured credit card reviewed my informaion...(NO CREDIT CHECK-I pulled my fico credit report this morning to verify) and forward me an application which I received yesterday. It is 3 pages, I have to complete and send a check, money order, etc to be place in a CD for 2 yr (per the paperwork) and in 1 yr, they will review my account to possibly unsecure my card.

Yes, i applied approximately 3 weeks ago, i called since i did not receive my application in 7 - 10 business days per the representative. I spoke with the credit card department who in turn transferred me to the supervisor over the secured credit card pilot program and she approved my app and sent it via mail. It took about 3 days to reach me in GA.

I CALLED USAA ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO REQUESTING A SECURED CC APP. I FINALLY RECEIVED IT AND COMPLETED AND FAXED. EASY APP AND I REQUESTED 1500. AS YOU ARE AWARE ITS A CD AND I REQUESTED THAT THE MONEY BE DEDUCTED FROM MY USAA CHECKING ACCT. SO I FAXED IT TODAY FRIDAY AND WILL KEEP AN EYE ON MY ACCT TO SEE WHEN THE FUNDS ARE DEDUCTED AND HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO GET THE CARD. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. I DONT THINK THEY DO A CREDIT CHECK BUT THE APP ASKED FOR MONTHLY GROSS INCOME AND HOUSING STATUS AND COST.

I got a hard pull for this card, but I didn't have any other products with them at the time and I'm a partial member.
