Discover More Cash Over Option

So I went to the grocery store and paid for my purchases(self checkout). I was asked if I wanted cash back. I press the no button. After the receipt printed I checked last 4 digit card number to make sure I didn't use my bank's debit card by mistake.

Has anybody else Discover More card been treated like a debit card? I thought only debit cards will give you the option to get cash back.

This is a very nice feature of the Discover card. It is treated like a purchase. No interest and no fees if PIF at statement time. A free loan.

Thanks for this info GomerPyle and the OP for asking the question. I have a Discover More card and had no idea of this feature!

It could very well come in handy at times.

Interesting: Winn-Dixie is in and Publix is out.

I guess this is a way you could make sure you get 1% rewards on everything without buying any colns!

There is a $200 per day limit according to their website. They do not say whether cash over earns rewards but I would doubt that it does.

How does it show up on the statement? Does it show up as a single purchase from the store? If so, it may count toward cash back rewards. If nobody here knows the answer, I'll call tomorrow and find out.

I went to Discover website to check. The Discover More card allows cash back with purchase. This is going to be my all time favorite card. I made my purchase at Kroger when I was asked if I wanted cash back.

I wonder if they get anything more that a total returned to them from the transaction. If not there would be no way for them to know what your cash over is or even that you had any. This we need to know. (And my year just rolled over, too.)

If they are setting a daily and monthly limit ($4,000) they obviously can separate the cashover amount from the purchase amount. I wonder if the merchant pays a fee in some way for the cash that is given out?

I doubt it.

This has to be excluded from the rewards base. That would be just too good to be true.

I am going to do one of these tomorrow AM just to see how it goes. I can't see myself doing this very much because I want to stay off radar and sonar screens.

There is no cap on the 0.25%/1% rewards program. There is on the 5% categories.

This is great.

Unbelievable that there is only one major store, Walmart, in my area.

We also have Aldi, Payless, Dollar General but the grocery chains Roundy's/Pic'n'Save and Sentry are not listed. This is Milwaukee, WI here.

Maybe I should go to Aldi more.
