I'm not sure why they are hard to get...I got denied for a Walmart card in October but received a preapproval letter in November for Sam's which I applied for and got...then last week I receive an email from GEMB that states due to a glitch in their system I didn't get this letter from them that says I was denied for a Sam's club. Signed into my acct and everything was okay. Very weird. My husband is going to try for Lowe's next week. Hopefully he will get it...we have some remodeling projects to do.

Also for some reason GE will not appove me for any of there major credit cards no success this past 2 years.

I got a really odd email too that said the same thing about a glitch in the system . Was yours in writing or via email? In November or December I had applied for a Walmart Card and forgot all about it. Never had a response or anything. Also never caused a hard inq on my credit reports. A good thing because I changed my mind about wanting the card a couple days later anyway. The email I got last week seemed to be out of left field. It had a link redirecting me to what looked like a site that had the Walmart Financial logo on it. I was not convinced it was legit so I didn't bother to provide any personal info to log on to the site and just ignored it.

Mine was email. I did open it because the day before I had emailed them regarding automatic credit line increases and so I thought maybe it had something to do with that. I logged into my account a couple times since then and everything looks okay. I think it was legitimate because it looked like the same denial letter I got when I was denied the Walmart card. Guess I will keep a close watch on it for awhile and glad I have scorewatch and quarterly monitoring.

And yes I was approved and using the acct for 4 months then got an email that said I was denied but my account is still active.

Good for you homerun. Don't ever click on spooky emails. Just go to the wal-mart sight your self and surf around to find out if you have an account that way.

The emails are from GEMB. That is how they send out their decisions if you provide an email when filling out an application. They try not to mail too many in order to preserve paper and trees.

LOL. GEMB could care less about trees. It cost money and takes people involvement to handle paper; that is why GEMB sends out emails. That is why all the new tree huggers (I'm a real tree hugger BTW) are sending out emails instead of paper; that and they are just getting on the "green" band-wagon as it is the new marketing ploy....all but REI anyway. LOL

I wasn't arguing that banks don't send legitimate financial information via email. Why concern for this particular thread is that people are seeing emails that don't jive with their current financial status and are opening these "wierd" emails and answering them with financial and personal data. This is one of the original internet scams and one of the most prevailent today. NO bank will initiate a request for personal or financial information via email. I believe all banks will instruct you to log in to their secured web site and confirm that it is a secured web site to conduct such transactions.

Well I doubt they care too. I was just repeating what the rep told me when I received the emails when I apllied for a few of their cards.

I'm in IT myself and have learned not to take any chances when it comes to emails linking me to sites asking for first time personal logon info. A red flag should be raised especially when they claim a glitch happened. It just sounds like a classic case of phishing to me. Best bet in these scenarios is to call the number off the main www.walmart .com site that you know is legit and go from there. Ask the rep about the suspicious email stating they had a glitch. Maybe even forward it to them so they can link to the site and verify if it is legit. Most importantly they should be able to provide that info to you over the phone about your app anyway.

Actually I received paper mail from a couple of weeks ago them telling me that my application had been declined. Funny because I provided an email
