topic 7-10 days for review - is that good or bad? in Credit Cards

With my recent success in credit card applications, my co-worker elected to go on an application spree as well. lol

In any case, three of the cards he applied for today all were met with a 7-10 days review at the end of the online application. Hooters, Capital One, and Nationwide. I personally have only seen one 7-1o day message and as soon as I got it and called in I was approved over the phone. I advised him to call and each of the credit card companies advised him its shopwing as pending and can take 7-10 days and he will be notified via mail.

To me, thats sounds like a denial. However, when he asked them if it was a denial they said "no" its still pending and no decision has been made. He asked for manual reviews and they said they do not perform manual reviews.

So, what do you guys think? Denied or just a lenghty review? All of his scores are between 690-720 and util is 7%. I personally cannot see any reason for a denial.
