A couple of recent posts about Citibank cards being "upgraded" (heads up!) to World Mastercards lead me to ask about the USAA World Mastercard. I was thinking about applying for one. Yeah, I know I said in other threads here that I wasn't planning to apply for new credit for a while, but after the mortgage two weeks ago, and before the new car coming up in 6-9 months (hopefully not required sooner!), this seems like a good opportunity, and a new CC seems like small change.

USAA's website implies there is a CL, at least (unlike my AmEx green charge card; had enough of that nonsense). Does anyone know whether USAA reports the CL (to all CRAs)?

It absolutely does. Mine reports the CL ($27K), and it's included in util. At any rate, my total reported CL's on my EQ and TU reports indicate that the CL is being used, rather than the highest-ever balance, which would make the total CL lower. (EX doesn't supply useful info like total CL.) And the CSR confirmed this, repeatedly and patiently, when I anxiously asked.

Here's how it looks on a full EQ report. The others look similar:

Has it been confirmed on here through personal experience that the USAA World MC now has a no preset spending limit ?

When I had investigated that question awhile ago, USAA reps explicitly stated by phone and through their online private messages that their World MC does NOT have a NPSL.

And at that time that I was looking into this matter, I read the experiences being reported by about ten or so USAA World MC members at the CB forum; all of them reported that their USAA World MC did NOT have a NPSL.

Furthermore, at that time I also examined USAA's literature that they sent in the mail to me about the USAA World MC and also examined their online FAQs about the World MC; again I could not find anything that stated or even suggested that the USAA World MC has a NPSL.

Welcome back!

And I think you're right, mostly. The CSR told me that they would allow me to go over, but I think it would be on a case-by-case basis. This was a year ago, so I don't recall the exact details. We both laughed about the unlikelihood of this happening and went on.

The issue is that World cards are supposed to be NPSL cards:

No pre-set spending limit:

World MasterCard has no pre-set spending limit which gives you the benefit of additional spending power should you ever need it. Enjoy the benefit of increased purchasing flexibility as long as you pay in full the amount that exceeds your revolving credit line on your billing statement each month.

There is similar verbiage on the Visa Signature site.

USAA has chosen to issue World cards, I suppose because of the cardholder benefits, with whatever restrictions they might have on spending limits. But because they are World cards, and they report as "flexible spending credit cards", it's important to know how they will be scored.

Also something to note is that the USAA World Mastercard has a minimum credit limit of $5,000

Very true. I applied last night for the World MasterCard and was approved for a $3,000 credit line. My USAA account page lists it as a "Platinum MasterCard" account... I guess it will up to the "World" designation at some point when they raise my CL?

Very exicted to be approved for it anyway.

EQ 666

I have to chime in here. My Citi American Airlines World Mastercard has a $3,000 credit limit but has no pre-set spending limit. You can go over your limit with no fees as long as you pay under it before the close of your billing cycle.

It doesn't post a credit limit on any bureaus. It shows my balance but no credit limit and no high credit. One would think it would go under "Other Accounts" on EQ like my AMEX Zync does, but it does not. It is also classified as "revolving" in EQ and TU. I should check what it posts under in EX, as well.

-M
