Denied NFCU flagship....maybe I made a mistake?

So I read somewhere that some folks apped for the flagship and the website says that if declined you will be considered for a different card. Well, I apped for the flagship and was DECLINED, I am depressed as I got no other offers...... I just want to build a credit history with NFCU so that after the new year, 6 months down the road, I can trade in my car for a good interest rate. Anyone had an experience like this? The reason for denial :

Unsatisfactory credit experience with present account

I have no clue what that means, I just opened my checking last week and my hubby and I have a joint savings.

Yes, discharged in 05....but of course it didnt include NFCU

I've read similar posts about them declining for past bankruptcies. Maybe you could call in a recon?

What are you details? Util, AAoA, etc. if you don't mind me asking?

How long have you had your account with NFCU?

In early days of NFCU, I've heard that you needed to have your checking/savings account open for 6 months. Of course, I am not sure how true this is, and I am sure there are exceptions, but that seemed to be the magic number at that time.

If you cannot get a standard card, I would do this.... Get a secured loan with them. Then after you get the funds from your secured loan, get their secured VISA card. Keep those for about 6 months, and then go and refinance your card and reapply for their unsecured credit card.

I"ve never had a BK (as mentioned as one reason you might have been declined).

I joined NFCU last week as a result of the USA FCU merger. I initially opened only checking and savings.

Monday, I decided to apply for their CC. I just finished sending them the documents they requested.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I did the same. My cashRewards visa was just approved yesterday with a $5,000 limit at 14.65 %. And on Monday my Navcheck was approved at $5,000.

Navy Federal Credit Union

They supposely have awesome CSRs, and are friendly to rebuilders like me!

I guess they just dont like me very much....................I opened the account on the basis to build a credit history with them as I want/NEED to trade in my current vehicle and would like to finance with them. I do not get depressed easily but I gotta tell ya, being declined by them was a real bummer. I was approved through USAA for a 4000 limit , highest limit, I just knew NFCU would be better to me.

Auto financing is soooo much easier to get approved for than an unsecured credit line such as a cc or line of credit. Don't give up hope on them so quickly. They generally have pretty good rates on auto loans. And if you can't get initial approval from them, there's always the opportunity to refi with them down the road. Navy Federal is a great CU, and you're in. Don't be discouraged by one set back. Glass half full!

Yeah I suppose you are right, I should be more optimistic, the decline bites though.......oh well, I will work on it. Maybe its because I dont have direct deposit???? Although I have read success stories that didnt either. I dunno, I will chin up and keep on keeping on.
