I got my BoA credit card a month ago and like it (aside from them not reporting a limit). Anyway, the phone has been ringing constantly every night at 8pm. Usually, I don't pick up when I don't know the caller. They never left a message. This time, I picked up and it was a BoA employee trying to sell me an identity protection package. After I had courteously declined three times and asked the lady to please respect that, she didn't give up and tried her pitch again...

I got so frustrated that I hung up. Was I too rude? Have you received these annoying calls, too?

Get used to it. Seems like every 2-3 weeks I get them. Once had 3 in one week.

Yeah... they can be merciless in their pursuit of getting you to sign up for their Identity Protection Services. Fortunately, you can opt-out of direct marketing from BoA. They'll leave you alone after you have.

You don't have to be rude. Your mistake was declining 3 times.

I always listen to the initial pitch to see what they are offering. And as soon as I get to answer. I politely say something like "I already have enough ... " or " I have no need for ..." and "thanks so much for calling". You then hang up the phone without listening to the next line. Don't pause, say it in 1 line, be polite, firm and quick.

On very rare occasion, I am interested and continue on.

Have you registered all your phones at the Do Not Call Registry? Even if you have an existing relationship with a company you can still ask not to be called. According to the registry website:

However, if you ask a company with which you have an existing business
relationship to place your number on its own do-not-call list, it must
honor your request. You should keep a record of the date you make the
request.

I found that here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm

From a BK years ago to:
EX - 9/09 pulled by lender 802
EQ - 7/06-663, 3/10-800, 10/10-813
TU - 10/10-774
You can do the same thing with hard work

I got calls like that from Discover, but asked me to put me on their internal "no solicitations' list, which stopped this behavior. Wells Fargo recently started with this nonsense, too. They have a radio button in the privacy settings online, which I set to "no phone marketing". Let's see how this works, as I only did this 2 days ago.

I don't think I'm rude if I hang up on them at some point. They don't listen or stop talking, so it's them being rude. I'm still a bit suspicious about the last WF call I got, because they didn't even ask me to say yes to anything and had two people on the phone, which reeks a bit of manipulation. I will study my statements carefully.

Thanks so much for the link. I opted out of BoA advertisement! These people will not stop talking to you. I guess it really is the best thing to just hang up. I am already afraid that I have to call Discover in the near future. You just have a question about your account but even the regular account service representatives will try pushing their security packages on you. I feel inconvenienced.
