Secured credit card to get even with no credit score

I just checked to see what my FICO credit score was, and it says that I don't have one, cause I don't have any credit card, any kind of loan etc. I pulled my credit report from the three CRA and I have no baddies. What secured card would you recommend me guys, I need to build my credit ASAP, I can't delay this anymore. I've a part time job and have no debts. Thanks!!!!

Who do you bank with? I would check with them first to see if they offer a secured card. Otherwise check with Captial One. They seem to have a decent secured card, and quite possibly if you meet their income requirements may even allow a low limit unsecured card.

Well, I bank with a small bank here in FL, that doesn't offer any kind of card. What are the income requirements for Capital one?

Capital One application for secured card does ask about all of your relevant income, but it is hard to know if there is a minimum.

Capital One secured card has some nice features such as easy to add deposit, and they add unscecured CL to your secured CL. They would be my first choice among the major banks.

Since you have no negatives, my guess is you can qualify for most secured cards. Check out the other major banks or credit unions.

Regardless, it is a very good way to start and once you have one reporting for 6 months, you will have a clean history and can start looking for unsecured cards.

Thanks, my credit report is almost blank, just 2 or three inquiries in every one of the reports that are from May and June that I tried to apply for store cards, but all were denied. Do anyone have similar experience trying to apply for Capital One secured without credit score?, what CRA they pull here in FL?

if you apply secured card with blank credit report :

-capital one : declined

-Bofa : apply online declined, in the branch 50:50

-wells fargo : declined

-orchard : fax ID, SS card and utility bill

-Public savings bank : send ID, SS card and utility

-First premier : they ask you proof of social # and address

-Discover (student) if you got instant decision, declined, if 7-10 days message, they ask your student enrollment

-Citibank: declined

This is my experience when help my friend apply his first credit card, result may different

dont waste inquiry !! IMO. just go to credit union, and open secured personal loan for 6 or 12 months.

I tried the orchard pre qualify website and it showed me orchard secured pre approved so I think orchard would be a good idea

Definitely, I will apply for Orchard secured, I think is my best option, cause first premier is outrageous, do anyone knows what CRA orchard pull in FL?

Good idea! Orchard pulls EQ. I am a big fan of Orchard for building/rebuilding credit. They are easy to manage online.

In your original post, you indicated no baddies on your credit reports from all 3 CRA's.

They are posting info on you - just no score?

Orchard is a good choice. If they decline, then Public Savings Bank is your backup. They don't even pull your credit.

OP, we realize that there are no negatives on there.

But are there any positives? Do you have anything reporting at all, and it just hasn't been 6 months yet?

If you have something reporting, I'd recommend holding off until a score is created at the six month point. You might be get something pretty reasonable.

If you absolutely can't wait, or you don't have any credit reporting whatsoever, I agree with beamMEup --go with Orchard, and just Orchard, for six months. Then see where your score is.

There seems to be this amazing temptation by builders/ rebuilders to load up on multiple rebuilding cards, even knowing that these cards won't grow with you and will make you crazy, especially with fees. Get an Orchard if you need to and then be patient. You have to let time do its thing.

I have a credit history since February, but as I said only a couple of inquiries. I just applied for Orchard bank, tomorrow I will send the application and the check, let's see what happens.

OK, I thought that's what you said, but I wanted to be sure.

Good luck with the Orchard app! And keep checking out local credit unions in the meantime. They're another good source for those building credit history.

Not sure what area in FL you are in, but Chartway would be a good credit union. I am not sure of the number of branches they have in FL, but they do have one in Jacksonville and St. Petersburg. With Chartway, you would have to qualify for membership, and if you don't have anything on your credit report, then I would recommend going the secured loan route (they don't check your credit) for 6-8 months, and then apply for a student visa or standard visa with them.

Or is there an NFCU near you that you might qualify to be a member of? they offer a secured card.

Oh, and one of the things that i did when I was younger and didn't have credit was I got a federal student loan, and choose to repay it while I was still in school. And I just paid it off in 10 months, and then I had at least that loan history on my credit report to generate a score. just a thought.

After I had a major problem with credit, I got a secured card from Capital One. It was the greatest investment in my future credit you could imagine. It helped me build my credit back from the high 400's to whre it is now, 800+-. That was years ago but I still maintain a good relationship with them.

I'd recommend Public Savings Bank's secured Visa credit card. Their card is good for building AND re-building your credit history.

BTW- Nice job on keeping a clean slate with your no debts!

Have been considering applying for Orchard Bank offer, but had read a previous post somewhere in the forum saying they do not report to credit agencies. Is this the case?
