So long time chase customer, freedom card, nice $12,500 limit.. finally got a balance transfer offer in the mail. 2 checks... no interest for a year. Fee though... 4%.

I have never used one of these, so have never tried, but my question is:

Can I call Chase and negotiate a lower (or no) transfer fee? I wouldn't mind transferring some deferred-interest financing from Home Depot over to Chase before it expires if possible. Anyone ever have luck with this?

I've never tried to negotiate a lower BT fee but all they can do is say no.

From a BK years ago to:
EX - 9/09 pulled by lender 802, EQ - 10/10-813, TU - 10/10-774

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem".

Seriously doubt that you can negotiate that fee away, but call them and give it a try. But I think the answer will be a firm 'No'.

Those offers are pretty much set on stone, but I know CITI and AMEX charge 3%, maybe you can add that to your negotiation arguments? Just a thought.

I am in agreement that they are probably at a set figure, but what is this figure based on?

Since I was just offered yesterday BT with BoA 0% for 21 months and no fees and offer good until June of 2011 while my DW today received same in mail and was offered a BT with BoA 0% for 18 months and 4% fees and offer good until Feb. 2011.

Calling in and negotiating may have some-one put you in a different tier, never hurts to try.
