No, it bothers me whenever they DON'T ask for ID.. A lot of stores in New York and New Jersey are notorious for not asking for I.D.. My thinking is: You mean some loser can steal my credit card and go on a shopping spree at some of these stores and get away with it because they don't ask for I.D.? It makes me smile when some stores do ask customers for I.D. because when I lived in Florida, most of the stores I went to asked for I.D..

I always hand my I.D. over together with my credit card, even if it's a store that's notorious for not checking I.D.

Nope, they're helping to prevent fradulent purchases from unauthorized users.

Yes, it may waste 5 sec. of your life, but it's definitely beats dealing with the CSR if your is card stolen and used by an unauthorized user.

I wish more people ask to check my id.

I understand what you mean. And yes it would deter crime if all store personell asked for it but me having that NY state of mind and knowing that most stores never ask it definitely upsets me when they ask but hey maybe I'd be less upset if I was more used to that practice

nope, doesn't offend me. sometimes it annoys me when i know that 99% of the time that store never checks, but it's more the inconsistency that bothers me rather than the actual question. around here nobody asks for ID usually.

That's exactly what it is the inconsistency with it in a particular store like to I purchased something in staples with my Amex and the girl didn't ask for Id but I returned the item to purchase a more expensive model about 100 bucks more and now the concern for id lol so I'm like WTF but I didn't care just thought it was backwards..

Lets see, five seconds to whip out my id, or goodness knows how many months and countless efforts to have fraudulent charges removed and repaired from your credit.

i actually appreciate the stores that ask for it all the time...its just the ones that selectively ask that annoys me.

kinda like airport security......its like.."why did i get chosen for additional screening"

I get annoyed whenever a store NOT asking me for ID. It feels like if I lose my card someone can just use it to without being busted.

Actually, I find it VERY irritating when I go to a store and use my debit card, enter in my PIN number, and they still ask me for ID Has this happened to anyone?

When a retailer agrees to become Visa or MC accepting merchant, they are not allowed to deny purchases for failure to provide identification.

If I get forced to show ID more than once at the same merchant, I quit going back. I refuse to show my driver's license to anyone except for traffic cops.

Forcing a customer to show ID has a higher chance of harming the customer than helping, like most security theater.

How? Unless they have a photographic memory they wouldn't have a chance to get any info from it, and if they do have such a memory they already have your card information, so what's difference does it make?

I prefer my stores to check my ID. As a matter of fact, I write it on the back of my cards.

My camera has a photographic memory. It takes a lot more work to get a new address than it does to get a new CC. I don't worry about CC fraud nearly as much as real ID theft. Birthday + address + DL Number is enough information to perform real ID theft.

It bothers me to no end. You sign the back of the card . you sign the slip.. MATCH THE DARN SIGNATURES. dont ask me for my I.D .
