Capital One raised my limit to $2000!

So I just went on to pay my Capital One card ($500 limit) and noticed that they just randomly increased the limit to $2000. I mean, I'm super pumped that this happened, but also a little flabbergasted that they would actually do this. My utilization has been extremely high in the last few months (75% at least) and I've asked them for 2 increases in the last year and they've always denied me.

Anyone else have this strange sort of luck with Capital One?

Your success made me check Capital One's site - they're one of my highest interest cards, and they have the lowest limit to boot. It is, however, my oldest card. I didn't want to risk the ding of a CLI request (or trust a CSR if they said it was a soft inquiry), but I did try the "modify my rewards" link and I finally have my no-rewards "platinum" card earning me (measly) rewards. .5% on the $62/mo I put on that card is better than 0% on that amount! (Yeah, I pay it immediately upon the balance showing up - and I'd have to charge $3k/year to get 1%)

I did. I started out on my first card at $300, 6 months later they bumped it up to $1000. That was a year and half ago. Nothing since.

I'm happy that You all got cli's but man I am jealous at the same time. Mines been stuck at 1500 since last year. Can everyone getting these increases tell me if you were part of the credit steps program?

Yes i started at 300 to 500 to 1400 now 2400 got card in 09.

Congrats!

That'll bring your utilization down and (depending on what else is on your reports) give you a nice FICO score bump!

What's your utilization on this card with your new CL?

If you work hard to keep the balance down, this will be a super-duper Christmas present!

That's awesome, congrats! I have been trying unsuccessfully to get a CLI from them. I was a part of the credit steps program. I started at $500 and was raised to $750 a few months later. I've asked for an increase a few times but they absolutely refuse to give me one - while other creditors will! When I called they said this card is not eligible to go any higher. Sigh.

I know exactly how you feel. If they Wont show me no love coming January when the annual fee hits they are canceled. I've been stuck at 1500.00 with credits steps also. It's done it's job and i have made major "steps".

I just called again using a backdoor number and talked to a senior account manager. Apparently CapOne is a "conservative" company so they are not and have not been accepting any customer-initiated CLIs. He said that although my scores have increased, it's actually a negative factor that I have other cards with large credit lines (Citi increased my limit to 10k and I just got a new card with them with an initial 6k limit). Go figure! All this hard work is paying off for every company except CapOne and Amex!!!

I wonder if I should just let it go as well? It's not that old and the limit is one of my lowest. I have a lot of other cards anyway. 14 in total including the CapOne.

So improving credit scores and higher credit lines with other creditors are negative factors with Cap One. Sounds like they rather you have all your transactions run through their card instead. Once I'm done with rebuilding, they will be on the chop block. I'm loving my NFCU and Barclay's CCs right now.. My Cap One gets the occasional swipes at the gas pumps.

We are in the same boat except you have 8 more cards than I do. Lol. I say if it doesn't affect your util then why not. The only thing good about my cap one is the 7.15 apr but i don't use the card anyways.

The Cap One card I was closing soon just got an increase as well. It went from $1500 to $2500. I still think I'm going to close it but it was definitely a surprise. Yes, I had Credit Steps with it.

that's what mine is too. i use it here and there because of the low apr when i'm short on cash for something. got my credit steps to $1k, and stayed there.

My utilization went from 80% to 32% now... I just need to control myself and NOT spend it in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the encouragement guys, I really appreciate it! I'm not sure what the credit steps are, but I definitely didn't request it again. They didn't even send me a message, I just went to pay my bill online and noticed the increase. Just an FYI of the history of the card. I opened it around March 07 at $300, they increased it to $500 about a year ago, and just recently they increased it again to $2000.

I have two Capital One cards. One has a 500.00 limit and the other has a 1500.00 limit. I just checked my account online and they raised the 500.00 to a 1000.00. I was stuck with these limits for awhile. Now only if they would raised the other card.

I been here from 2008. I was going close it but l let them do it for me. (Credit Limit:$1,500.00 You guys lucky able get those cli.
