App Inquiry = reduced score

New TL = reduced score

New TL doesn't always equal a reduced score, in fact in can increase your score; especially if it lowers your utilization. Also an inquiry doesn't necessarily reduce your score either. A certain combination of these can, however.

Over time yes, but I was using the initial impact as a deterrent from the OP falling off the Credit App Wagon.

I'm with you, Smug! I've tripled my available credit (maybe more?) this year between app'ing and CLIs. I am DONE with the apps in 2011! CLIs... as long as there no hard INQs, I'll take em.

Here is some word of advice from someone who was ignorant the first time around.

I think I take the trophy for this time around, I applied for credit well over 26 times in one year. I was DESPERATE for credit.

Here was the results: HIGH RISK

All my lenders who gave me their credit cards which were ALL maxed out began to close my accounts.

I've definitely learned my lesson, I'm going 6 months strong without even applying or doing anything credit related. I feel great!

My lenders reopened my accounts except for Citi, they asked me to contact them back in 1 year.

wooooooo!!! 6 months strong!!! Way to go! This will definitely become the topic with the most responses, updates, and views throughout the coming year. I'm half way on your heels at 3-months so far. Barclays killed me, but that's another topic. Goal is 1 year without apping.

You can do it!!! When I look back, I don't feel as pressured anymore. After what happened to me, I have DEFINITELY learned my lesson!

1 year is great! I'm shooting for 2 years so I can have a clean record, no inqs so then I can apply for an AmEx. EEEK!!!

That's all I ask for, and maybe some Citi Platinum card.

How many cards do you have no? Any balances?

I think people are becoming smarter and smarter with credit, well at least the people I know

It's not that hard to do. My youngest card is over 6 years old.

It's just like quitting smoking. If you want to stop you will.

I have no balances on any of my 3 new cards and I will keep it that way and just put a star bucks on it once a month, I need it to grow to get some decent credit, ok is everyone ready ....lol

I'm right there with ya . I had an episode a few months back as I was app'ing my little heart out until I applied for a CC from US Bank and got an approval for $1,500 then it was "noticed" that I had app'd for credit way too many times ,way to soon (according to them) so they lowered it by $1000-OUCH!!! that was the brick wall I hit, so with that experience, I STOPPED completely! Doesn't mean that I was close to app'ing again but remembered my experience so it made me exit outta the application. I am going to let my garden grow because I really want a new car this time next year and I wanna go in there very well prepared to get what I WANT..lol...not what my credit will allow me to. Beginning the new year with better credit and hope to end it with excellent credit.....Good luck to ya!

Gee and I feel like I have a lot of cards. I have AMEX Zync, AMEX Blue Sky Preferred, Chase OnePass Plus, Citi Thank You Preferred, Banana Republic, Home Depot, and Nordstroms. I have 7 credit cards...I feel like I have too many! hehe.

I have no reason to app for anything next year unless it's an emergency, though all my mortgage inquiries will fall over in March/April next year thankfully. I'm going to let cards age and new accounts to settle. I lost a few months off of my AAoA opening BR, Nord, and Chase...so I'll have to be careful. Just hope AMEX doesn't get worried. If they FR me I'll just close 'em, no big deal.

I thought I was declined but found out I am getting a few I applied for but do a freeze they need to send a letter, guess I have a few more coming....makes it easy to stick to my plan.

I also feel you - last few months resulted in 3 new cards and yesterday was approved for another. I have a total of 10 (sigh i know) all no balances and decent limits... goal is to have no more apps through the end of this next year. Wish me luck (and good luck to you)!
