i went from 2000 to 6000. so i got a 4k increase. sweet!

now i heard someone getting approved for a revolving amex with a low experian plus score. when i read this, i instantly had the confidence to request a credit limit increase. but i was prompted because i knew for a fact (from a rep.) that i should have no problem asking after 12/15. well i wanted to wait untill at least march to do it. but upon reading the score, and knowing it was completely one month later, i figured, what the heck.

i learned that if you ask over the phone, it becomes a soft inquiry. i don't know if it is via rep. or automated phone that are both soft, but i went with a rep just to be sure.

Yup! Something's up with AmEx. I got a $5k increase automatically yesterday.

Congrats on the CLI! How do you like your Blue Cash card? I just recently got one and been putting all my expenses through it to maximize rewards

beeks, i guess you got me beat! automatic and 1k more than me. than again i have only had my blue since october. i supposed if i would have waited i may have gotten this too.

i love my blue cash card, except i feel guilty using it for most things, because their fees are the highest for merchants. it is mostly my grocery store card, walgreens, or cvs. thats mostly where i will use it, use it at dunkin donuts exclusively, nice restaurants. department stores. huge auto mechanic payments. (i will use several cards to make the purchase, including blue cash.)

i saw this thread and went ahead and clicked the button on my amex blue. bumped me from 7.5 to 10k limit. good call.

Congrats on your CLI for Blue Cash!!!! About a month ago, I requested a CLI for my Costco Amex over the phone. They increased from $3K to 5K. I never requested any CLI for my Blue since I got the card. I think it is enough for me to use. I heard you can request only one CLI for every six months for only one of all credit cards.

It seems as if AMEX has opened up the credit vault again. For the longest, the CLI button wasn't working. Everyone is getting approved for new cards and CLIs. Congrats!

I've had the card since nov 3 and don't see the button yet...let's see how long it takes to "appear".

All this AMEX CLI talk got me to apply for one, too. I just went from $5,500 to $10,000 on my Blue Cash. I wonder if I could have pushed them for more. Kinda weird that my Clear is stuck at $3,000.

Anyone know if AMEX make counter offers when you request a CLI? I hope I'm not selling myself short when I request small increases to not get denied.

Are you saying that you have a Clear and Blue Cash card? Did they backdate one of the cards?

Yeah, the blue cash was backdated to the year I got the Clear. Too bad I didn't know about back dating 5 months ago or I would have waited until January to get the Blue Cash.

Yeah, the blue cash was backdated to the year I got the Clear. Too bad I didn't know about back dating 5 months ago or I would have waited until January to get the Blue Cash.

You're making me want to apply for the Clear card and have them back date it.

The Clear is just 1% cash back. You'd do better to go with Costco True Earnings, or Blue Cash if you're willing to make it your go-to card. (Can't remember which one you have already.)

Is your previous AmEx card older than your AAoA? Back-dating is great --certainly better than a brand-new opening date, but if the older card is younger than your AAoA, as in my case, your AAoA will still drop some.

I have the Blue Cash already. Now that I live in an area that has a Costco, I'm thinking about becoming a member and then apply for the AMEX Costco card. I opened the Blue card in 2009.

Sounds like your case is like mine, then --a new AmEx card will show as a couple of years old, so you'll dodge the "new credit" bullet, but it's still going to drop your AAoA.

The Costco rewards are 3% on gas and restaurants, 2% on travel, and 1% on everything else. I sprang for the Executive Membership, getting 2% back from Costco purchases, independent of the AmEx rewards, so that makes my Costco purchases get 3% rewards.

But I'll be hard-pressed to buy that much from Costco at this point in my life, and you might find it the same for you. In most cases, their prices aren't that much better than elsewhere, unless you get one of the great prices on buying in bulk. It took a week to get through that 2 1/2 lbs of organic spinach!

So you might not get much net value from the card (or any other back-dated AmEx card), depending on the rewards you get on your other cards.

lol... DI.. my cli was as you described "counter offer" or what they call partial cli approval. i asked for a 5.4k increase. but they only approved me for 4k cli. but actually i asked for 5.4k limit, and i think the rep misunderstood me, but it was to my advantage actually because intsead of receiveing a 3.4k increase, i received a 4k increase. a 4.5k increase would have been even better though
