I finally went on the pre-approval site. And lo and behold

they approved me for a secured card with a/f. EXCUSE ME?

I have had card with them since '03, no fees.

It's my personal opinion but I wouldn't want another

HSBC product.

If you used the HSBC prequalifier (not Household or Orchard), and you don't bank with them, that is the only result that will come up.

Either way, I think the prequals are broken for people with outstanding credit (Orchard wants me to get a secured M/C too).

Don´t waste your time with HSBC, their one of the worst bank, I had a very bad experience with them.

I used the same link last month and was pre-qualed, and then approved, for an HSBC Visa Platinum with Rewards, no annual fee, 0% on purchases and transfers for 12 months, and then 9% or something thereafter, with a limit of $9,500.

So, as anything in the credit world: YMMV. HSBC has been good to me, personally.

For their banking customers, HSBC offers some great products, outside of that, the only decent cards they issue are:

Best Buy Store Card (Plan A)

Neiman Marcus Store Card (May be switched from HSBC from what I've come to understand)

HSBC USA:

High fees on just about everything.

Low CLs.

A freeze on CLIs for the longest time.

Low interest rates on deposit products.

They blacklist.

HSBC Hong Kong:

They definitely do NOT suck.
