Discover More denied my application about 3 months ago due to my school information( Was enrolled at a Community College) Since then, I didn't even bother with Discover because I had a big grudge against them for denying my application because I wasn't enrolled at a University.

At the time of rejection my score was 738 TU, AAOA 1.8 Years, 0% Balance and 8 Inquiries.

However, I've just updated my enrollment at a University. Because Discover advised me to apply in the future when I'm enrolled at a University, so I did!

I got the dreadful 5-7 days electronic message or call them tomorrow for application status check-up.

I'll update you guys on my application status. Honestly though, I wouldn't be surprise if they turn down my application again... Discover hates me

This card would be a really nice mixture for my portfolio. I hope Discover will give me an opportunity to grow with them.

I got that message, but it made me set up my online account, (in case you're approved).

I called in 10 minutes later and they approved me on the phone! Call in! You're likely approved.

I just gave Discover a call and they said I had to wait until Monday to call back for a Credit analyst take a look at my CR.

They denied you because you're at a Community College vs a University? That's sort of discriminatory, no? They think just because you can't afford to go to a University you aren't worth as much? That's sort of shocking.

Sadly, but true... I was taking prerequisite courses for the sheriffs academy at the time. It was at a community college, so I was not enrolled at a " university".

It is understandable, as there might a different classification from university and community college for the financial purposes. But a student is a student.

I just gave Discover a call about their Decision. They said that my application is approved but but but they would need me to submit my school's information that I'm a student. Sure , that's not a problem for me right??? Wrong!!! They asked for my class schedule or my tuition bill. I told them that I was not able to register this semester because the classes I need were canceled due to budget cuts. They said " sorry we can't approve you then ". Even though I have all documents that would show proof that I'm a student at the California State University of Fullerton, it wasn't good enough for them. I'm a student damn it!! I'm not mad at Discover, I just think their student acceptance policy is a little weird. I'll just stick with my current cards for the meanwhile an just let it grow. Hopefully things can work out with Discover in the future.

Sorry to hear about this, but try calling again. All they asked me on the phone was "do you go to Boston University?". I said yes, they asked my major, I said comp sci and that was it. I'm betting another rep can make it work.

That plain sucks. Two wasted inquiries with Discover. Congrats for keeping your calm!

On another note, maybe they do have a point, though (even though it's admittedly small-minded). If you don't have a tuition bill, doesn't that mean that at that moment you are not a student there? Or do you have other proof of enrollment?

Great news! I just received a call from Discover regarding my application. The rep was extremely nice, he went over some informations regarding my student status. I didn't have to fax/mail any proof of my status as a student and this rep immediately approved me for $1000. I asked " what triggered Discover to call me when three other reps didn't want to approve me?". He simply replied, "it was just some mix-up regarding your status as a student, but I'm capable of approving you". After months of trying and reconsideration attempts, finally Discover approved me! The credit limit may not big, but it's better than nothing. This shows hard work and being persistent will pay off. Thanks everyone for the great advice. Oh btw personal thanks to smc733. Even though calling back didn't work, it triggered them to call me back for approval. Im so happy haha!!

Awesome! Welcome to the Discover family. I love mine, its become my favorite card!

I've found the application side of Discover to be very inconsistent (been told random things in the past), but there was no reason for them not to approve you. Be sure to register for the 5% cashback categories, too.

I'm thinking if I wait to get out of their system, (ie. 120 days, the status check page shows no applications), I may be okay. I'll even lower the number well below my HHI for safety, provide my employer's phone number, and then see where that takes me.
