do you have the direct rewards discover?

Not sure whether or not it's a counter offer for you, but it was an invitation for me. Got the invite in the mail for it and sent it in. It's (as I realize now) an HSBC Discover card. They started me with a nice cl, and I have had no issues with the issuer so far. They do not do cli's on request though.

The direct rewards is sometimes a counter offer when you apply for a card on the discover site. Its offered by HSBC. If you want a discover I would go for the motiva. Did you apply and get the counter-offer?

before i found this site. i appd discover and was counterd the hsbc versio. crumby 300 cl and 59 af. since then i picked up about 15k worth of no fee tl's. i told them to keep it, even after i paid the af.

LOL!! I was afraid that would happen when I app'd and made it clear I did not want the card. Nothing against it, but I have too many HSBC products as it is.

if i'd have known how hard it was to get a discover i wouldn't have wasted an inq.

I got it with a $19 AF, $800 CL, and 2.2 APR for 6 months. I don't have anything negative to say except that they don't let you request an increase, ever.

HSBC can kiss my fanny if they don't get rid of the AF in Feb. Will close them. (this is not a discover though)

Definitely with you on that NetP. I am using my BB MC for all its worth til Feb for the rewards then will close for the same reasons. It is defintiely NOT Discover, it is just processed on the discover network.

I got the HSBC Discover card and there is no AF on the card. I got CL of $750. Not a bad card as for the points and rewards. I am not sure how good is HSBC with CLI for their Discover card. I'll use it for a year and if I dont get CL then I'll sock drawer the card as there no AF nothing to loose by keeping the card.

If your wanting a single cycle discover card and don't think you'll ever use shopdiscover, then I would go for Miles, yes it's a travel rewards card, but there are other redemption options. though wouldn't be the value travel would be, but even the worst free rewards are better than any rewards you have to pay for.

my suggestion is if you think you'll ever use shopdiscover, go for the more card, and use another card to revolve with.

Most the money I get from Discover is from shopdiscover, it's real cash cow if you like the merchants on it.

If do using this gets process on the discover network, after few months of usage and good habits wouldn't make easier to obtain a real discover card.???

The co-branded cards don't help or hurt compared to any other TL. It's just like having a Visa or M/C when viewed by Discover. On a side note, the co-branded cards are what are currently keeping Discover afloat.

Those other Discover Card issuers command a higher interest. My APR for the HSBC Discover is 21.99% I got the invite to apply back in Oct 07. They gave me a good CL $2500 though.

This April, I applied for the real Discover and got $4300 CL. Discover won't allow me to BT from HSBC Discover.

I wonder why they approved me when they could have made more $$ with the HSBC. Oh well, HSBC will be sock drawered once PIF this month.

Discover has been doing the same thing as Amex. The HSBC Discover uses the Discover interchange network. There is an interchange fee that Discover gets a part of, but Discover does not receive any interest from the charged amount. However, they also do not have exposure to credit defaults. The interchange fees can add up to hefty profits, hence the financial success of Visa and M/C.
